Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe loved the decor and book theme throughout the hotel, great way to make it stand out. You can tell Steve has put a lot of effort into renovating it into a gorgeous hotel. He’s also in the middle of setting up an aircon system in the rooms which will be a massive bonus once up and running. Very comfortable large bed and clean en-suite with lovely shower. Breakfast was a nice light way to start the day, really enjoyed the barista coffee! Worth mentioning that we stayed in a room that faced onto the Wetherspoons and didn’t have any issues falling asleep as there are double sound proof windows blocking out any noise. I usually sleep with earbuds in but didn’t on this occasion and got to sleep very easily, I was only awoken in the morning (7am so not bad!) by barrel deliveries. We’ll definitely be back - hoping to book a room with a sea view next time :)

United Kingdomyou need to check in before 10pm, no 24-hr reception + the breakfast is only italian style, ie coffee and bakery, other options available nearby outside the hotel
Immaculate & recently refurbished hotel with a real homey touch and artistic difference. The hotel is novel/cinema themed , rooms are all named after famous books. Woke up to an amazing smell of freshly baked croissants and coffee - all served in a super pretty 'library'-breakfast room. The hosts were extremely welcoming and helpful, directed us to best sunset spot and dinner places around!

United KingdomChapter One is an absolute hidden pearl! Steve welcomed us at arrival and showed us our rooms, he also made us packet lunches in the morning as we had to leave the rooms at 7am and before breakfast was served, we felt so looked after! The hotel and rooms design is curated in every single detail to make the guest feel comfortable. Rooms are impeccable with free wi-fi as well, level of cleaning also outstanding.

GermanyLovely Hotel! Central, beautiful house. Steve welcomed us at the door, helped with the luggage. He was really welcoming and nice to talk to . The house is just so pretty; so many details and a great theme. The room was pretty, clean and also lovely, personally designed. Every room is named after a book. Breakfast was also really nice. Little tables in the beautiful room, good food. Parking was also no problem. Alltogether a great stay! Recommend :)

United KingdomVery difficult to answer as everything was perfect. Possibly slightly more variation on the breakfast choice with cheese or cold meats to make it more continental.
Our room was spectacular with a full sea view. Immaculately clean and the staff could not do enough to make our stay perfect. Nothing was too much and they were all exceptionally friendly.

The property was very close to the beach and the promenade, and walking distance from multiple restaurants. The whole property also was very well maintained, appears newly decorated and refurbished. Stephen and staff were very friendly and helpful. They have clearly gone the extra mile to do something different here, the property is themed, but probably best not to say exactly how, so you can discover yourselves. Fantastic coffee and breakfast also!

United KingdomIf you want a hotel that you drive into a their car park and walk up to the reception to check in talking to people who have a fake smile don’t know who you are just another punter then this isn’t for you. Drop off and parking is different and won’t please some people for sure.
Their are a number of mixed and rather negative reviews for this hotel. After initially booking two rooms I received instant communications from Steve at Chapter 1 answering online questions I had asked when booking. Texts and emails in the morning with help and advice for checking in, restaurants and parking. Steve is very responsiveness and very helpful and a made the overall experience enjoyable.

Absolutely everything. Our story was perfect from beginning to end. Thank you so much. Loved the book theme throughout and that the book our room was named after was also in the room. Such friendly Owners and staff. Amazing with me being Coeliac and made sure I didn’t feel left out. Beautiful shower and bathroom and room. Stylishly decorated, spotlessly clean and a Wonderful bed I didn’t want to get out off. Totally our new go to when we visit again. Amazing experience.
