The hotel was a little dated in terms of decor and could probably do with some sprucing up in the near future.

The room was very big and comfortable with all of the amenities as promised when we booked. The hotel was in a great location, very close to the centre and a walk from the train station. It was very lively in the square but you could not hear anything from the hotel room.

Downside of being central is that the centre of Sheffield is a serious party zone on Saturday night. Probably better during the week. And not enough towels - only 1 set, we were 2.

It was a bit noisy of a night with the back of the hotel being part of a square where there is a selection of pubs and restaurants, but join in, and you won't notice like we did. Furniture in rooms is a little outdated, and rooms themselves need a little TLC but fit for purpose. I'm not sure about having a see-through plastic chair as the only chair to sit on in the room, but that's what was there.

Mattress was a little too hard and was 2 divans hooked together so we could feel the divide between us. I didn’t like the high velux window in our 5th floor room. I wasn’t expecting not having a window I could see out of. It made what should have been a really nice room feel claustrophobic.

Friendly service, nice location, close to all amenities. Room was tastefully decorated and nice extras such as water in the fridge. The shower in the room was very powerful! A magnifying led mirror in the bathroom was an item that I didn’t realise I’d love so much.

The only gripe I have is that for the not inconsiderable price for the room, breakfast was not included, a real shame and somewhat parsimonious in my opinion.

The breakfast room is awful! Worse than a ‘not very good cafe’. Really let’s the place down as compared to all the very nice places in the hotel it’s badly decorated, cheaply furnished with awful acoustics. Makes you think that actually the guests are the least important people.

No water the first night in our room as supplies had run out. Likewise marmalade at breakfast the first morning, and orange juice the second morning - supplies had run out. The coffee pods were all the same in our room (we paid extra for a deluxe king with coffee machine as my husband likes a strong, caffeinated coffee in the morning) and no-one seemed to know what the pod contained as it didn't match anything on the 'menu' of Nespresso pods and wasn't very nice. The consensus was it was some sort of decaf but who knows. And for all of them to be the same was annoying. Little things, but the room was quite a bit dearer than the standard double so we were a bit disappointed.
