Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustriaNothing.
Angelo is a super host, he showed us everything and was very helpful with local info. The best thing about the apartment is its locality, quiet, green, steps away from the shopping center and gas station. Bus stop for Funchal city center some 50 meters away. Parking in Angelo's yard with a motorized gate. Lots of space, powerful WiFi. Two bathrooms, two bedrooms. One of the best accommodations we experienced on our trips.

Czech RepublicThe accommodation was fantastic and the host Angelo was very nice and willing to help anytime. Our flight was delayed, but it was not a problem at all to come later in the night as expected. We were welcomed with homed made cake, vine and avocados. It was very calm place in the middle of banana trees with amazing views. We enjoyed having breakfast on one of the terraces in the morning with the company of the cat Marshall or sitting in the evening outside and watching the sunset. The big shopping mall was very close (approximately 2 minutes’ walk) and it was opened every day till night, so you could buy whatever you need, or just go for a coffee or some food. I would really recommend this house.

HungaryThe apartment is in a large house which is surrounded by an amazing garden full with banana trees. Very spacious, more than enough room for a family of four (We were with two teenagers). Two terraces with ocean view, and one to grill. There is a huge shopping center 2 minutes walk from the house, with fast food restaurants and a grocery store open until late in the evening. So you can easily do your shopping either in the morning or late in the evening when you arrive home from your daily trip. The center of Funchal is a bit far, but easily accessible by bus. The bus stop is just right at the corner. Angelo is a great host, helpful and informative. We loved their cat, Marshall, who came around the house every morning and also in the evenings. If your priority is not going out every evening in the center, but have a large and well equipped apartment in a peaceful street with beautiful garden and view, I absolutely recommend Angelo's place.

BulgariaGreat place! Almost always pictures exaggerate the place, here it's the opposite. An amazing villa for friends and family. Never used the BBQ but it's a great feature.

HungaryThe accommodation has a cosy and friendly atmosphere. The host was very kind and waited for us with small delicacies. The house is in a very cosy and quiet place. There is shopping nearby (within 150 m). You can park your car in the enclosed garden. Everything went smoothly, we had a great time! Thank you!

Netherlandsreally nothing.
The host, Angelo, was very helpful and communicative. The wine and the lemon cake with "welcome" on top were a great surprise - thanks! The place is located near a large shopping mall which is very useful. Everything was present in the kitchen and bathroom - we missed nothing.

United KingdomNothing. If i have to think of something, we couldn't get wifi signal in the bedroom areas (though we had a good phone signal there anyway), but downstairs in the lounge the wifi is good...so this really isnt anything to complain about.
It is an absolutely fantastic place to stay, stylish and very comfortable. There is a big shopping centre with huge supermarket 5 mins walk away yet the property feels right in the country amongst the banana trees. You see nothing of any developments around and hear no cars. There are four different outdoor sitting areas, some in the sun with sea views and some in the shade which were fantastic. The kitchen has everything you need. There is gated parking (also a bus stop 5 mins away), and the property is well located to get by car to the motorways, Funchal, and the mountains (Valley of the Nuns is 25 minutes away!) Angelo the owner is very helpful and friendly. This is the best holiday home we have ever stayed in and intend coming back in the future. One extra thing...Ana had left a delicious welcoming cake for us, there was a bottle of their own wine, and Angelo kept us stocked with his delicious bananas from the garden trees.

An exceptional welcome. The kindness of our hosts is limitless. On arrival, a succulent cake, local fruits, a bottle of madeira from our hosts and a tasting in their cellar. Locations: as described on booking.com. Impeccable cleanliness and absolute calm although near a large shopping center. Thanks to Angelo and Ana for allowing us to have an extraordinary stay. If we return to Madeira, no doubt it will be at Casa D'Avo Celina. It is a regret we can’t put a rating above 10! Counsels for visitors: A) 2 great fish restaurants; 1 on the coast at 5-8' Marisqueira o Barqueiro; 1 in Camara de Lobos (10') Vila do Peixe. B) housing is difficult to find. Go around the "Madeira shopping center" (lots of signs to this center), when you pass in front of the gas pump (photo 1 attached), turn carefully immediately right (photo 2) and continue to the end of the dead end street (+/- 40 meters) (photo3) and you will be at your destination in front of a wide front door.
