How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Couldn’t find a better located place to stay. It was close to all attractions, in the heart of Funchal. Friendly and very nice staff. We’ve got many additional towels. It was spotless clean and surprisingly quiet place. Very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, nice balcony. I would definitely stay there again. Thank you :)

The address provided on Booking.com is not correct so I had some difficulty locating the building as it was around the corner. Communications could also be a bit simpler as I kept getting a message by email to give my check in details. As it was the same message each time I did not scroll to the bottom where I would have seen additional, added information about the building access code and then in further messages a request to go downstairs to pay. This just needs to be made more clear. Thank you.
It's an excellent location and just could not be better. We had a room at the back of the building which had a lovely sunny terrace which was like having a great outside living room. The compact kitchen had all we needed, the bed was super comfy and the bathroom very spacious. All was very very clean.

A real sweetheart of a property with a fantastic location close to Cathedral and Marina. It is a small unit (smaller than appears in photos) best suited to short stays, but it's very well-outfitted and squeaky clean. We stayed new years eve when the city is exceptionally noisy but being on the back of the building and with the thick walls, the room was delightfully quiet. Highly recommend.

We got fresh towels halfway through the week and it would have been nice to have the flat cleaned once during our 5-night stay, but it is not a serious issue. Everything was actually perfect.
Excellent accommodation in a very central position, close to the Christmas market. Spotlessly clean, neat and tidy. We loved the small terrace where we could sit outside. The owner was extremely helpful and allowed us to check in early as the flat was ready.

Very nice studio apartment located in the old town . Had kitchen facilities and a small balcony. Lots of restaurants nearby and a supermarket about a 5 Min walk. Very convenient for sightseeing. Not serviced daily but fresh towels were provided. Staff very helpful.

The only slight issue for us was that the bed was a bit on the firm side

The damn pillows. Just stick to normal pillows, not these small square puffed up things. I don't get it. So uncomfortable. I did speak to a lovely lady cleaning and she provided us more, but of the same. She tried which I appreciated.
The apartments finish is top notch, to a high standard with all the mod cons you need to be able to cook a full meal and shower in a lovely space. The terrace and being on the top floor was a great plus. I would recommend room 303 for the view and no overlooking neighbours on the terrace. The door code into the building and to the room is a great feature so no waiting to check-in etc. Location is dead centre of the town and easily accessible to everything in Funchal.

Nothing wrong. However, keep in mind that this apartment is situated in the centre. It will be very difficult to park your car. If you are planning on day trips through Madeira by car, then this is probably not your best choice of stay.
Really great compact apartment. The owner has put SO MUCH thought into the interior design and thought about everything you need. Emergency numbers, first aid kit, oven, kitchen utensils etc etc. The apartment we had was small but felt really cosy and like home immediately. The location is PERFECT for everything you would like to do in Funchal. When you get tired of walking around in the city or need to go to the toilet you have your own apartment close to you at all times. Also extremely clean apartment, the building in which it is located is also spotless.

Never saw a single person/staff, in case you wanted to ask a question. Mattress was very hard
Great location and clean studio with equipped kitchen if you wanted to cook something. House has an elevator which I was very happy about. The balcony is cute, unfortunately there is no view at all.
