Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesRoom did not have an iron. Had to request.
Staff were so friendly and responsive. Grounds were fantastic to walk around. Room with decks were great to relax and read a book and listen to the birds. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet and staff arranged airport transfers, tours and tickets for annual Madeira Floral Parade.

United StatesWe enjoyed everything. Only thing we regret was that we didn't stay here the entire time on the island. We instead stayed another place in the western side.
We enjoyed the breakfast every morning. It was a buffet style including variety of bread, fresh fruits, fresh juice, cold cut, cheeses, yogurt, cereals, etc. You can also order drinks and any number of foods from the al carte menu with no additional charges. The breakfast service was very efficient, friendly, and professional. We liked our room with our private lounge chairs facing the garden. We were welcomed with a plate of fresh fruits, fresh cut flower arrangement, and two large, bottled water. Funchal is a very busy place. However, our room was below the street level, thus insulating from the traffic noises. We woke up listening to birds singing to us every morning, because of its beautiful garden setting. We enjoyed a peaceful time in the busy town. We also like the abundant use of natural wood in the furniture, the building, and the room. The people at the reception were very friendly and helpful.

United StatesWe were moved from one room to another after one day because of minor issues in our original room. The staff upgraded us to a larger suite and, when we brought a heating issue to their attention, comped us on dinner. No hotel is perfect, but this staff goes out of its way to make things right.
This is an exceptional hotel. Most rooms are decorated in a contemporary spin on mid-century modern, while the Manor House offers suites decorated in a more sumptuous, traditional way. The grounds are beautifully landscaped, with plenty of room for guests to enjoy without bumping into each other. The staff is impeccably trained and proactively seeks input to make the stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel offers several excellent dining options; even the on-campus pub provides amazing food. The gym and spa facilities are good.

AustraliaBathrooms could do with updating. The shower over the bath is small and awkward.
The garden and grounds are spacious, exceptionally beautiful with glorious birdsong. Quiet but convenient location. Food and service of a high quality, particularly in the bistro.

SwitzerlandOverall it was a great stay but the reason why we do not give 10 is the following: - the place needs refurbishment. Small details not in perfect condition. Also bringing some modernity in tradition would be good (plugs near beds is an example). - We had complimentary water in room only on arrival and not everyday. - We had to queue for breakfast due to breakfast room being too small to accommodate all guests.
The place is a little paradise with an amazing garden, architecture and very nice staff. Food is also amazing. It is a great place to relax.

AustriaThe room itself was a bit outdated – it's not a "modern" room and the TV was clearly installed a while ago as an afterthought. But the bed is very good, bathroom large, very clean, and everything worked properly.
The first thing you see but don't expect – even if they tell you in advance – is the extremely interesting and nicely made garden. They have exotic plants from all over the world! Personnel is very friendly, explicitly asks you if you need help, etc. From my impression, the target audience are seniors, who want to have a relaxed holiday with sun to escape the boring gray winter – but there were also couples with children. There is also a small restaurant for the evening. SPA treatments, various exercises, steem bath, whirlpool, etc. you name it - they have it. This is probably the top residency besides the more busy large luxury hotels near the beach down the street.

GermanyWe had some issues with our shower in our bathroom. Due to some unfortunate construction, there had been a small gap between the floor lining of the shower and its sliding glass door that caused water spilling into our bathroom. However, the staff was so attentive and creative and together with a skilled worker they were able to fix it with an additional flexible shower curtain. Well done!
The hotel represents quite an architectural gem and very much reminded us of a Mies van der Rohe building, especially, the splendid reception area. As a result, it all looked a bit "50's", but we really loved it, a unique experience. The place exhales a special aura, especially in combination with the lovely garden. We had booked a "deluxe suite with garden view" and indeed, the suite not only provided a lovely view into the spacious garden, but had been itself also very spacious including a huge, but comfortable (marble) bathroom and a nice seating area. The rooms walls were partially covered in brownish wood panels which harmonised well with the inbuilt wardrobe. The breakfast buffet offered many options with daily variations. The staff had been very attentive and friendly. On our first evening, we had dinner at the local "fine dining" restaurant, "The Dining Room". Again, a very nice experience and a good idea for a first night, we thought. The spa area including the sauna was small, but fine.

An absolutely wonderful hotel with great facilities and members of staff who could not have been more efficient and attentive. If this is within your budget then I can't recommend it highly enough ! United Arab EmiratesThe pool is heated but only slightly. The manager did everything he could to make the temperature comfortable for our family, I can’t fault him. In reality, it seems the gas heater can’t heat the pool further and I think the attraction of two heated pools is mischaracterised for a winter break. The breakfast area is a little small when the hotel is full and it rains as you can’t use the outside area. We waited a long time one morning to be seated. A robust rain covered veranda would help a lot.
Everything. It was such a relaxing and quiet stay and the facilities, food and helpful reception staff made it very comfortable. The garden is beautifully tended to with different paths and vistas to discover. The food is adventurous, healthy and a great introduction to Madeira’s cuisine, but still International enough to suit all tastes.
