How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

This place has a very good location - in the center of Funchal, near Se. The room was very comfortable, clean and new. The staff was very willing, kind and helpful. We enjoyed our stay here.

The property was located in Old Town Funchal, close to many restaurants, shops, the water front, and park! Excellent location! Andres was accommodating and helpful! He even took me to the airport at 7am for my flight!

Maybe the mattresses could be more comfortable. Nothing else to be remarked as a negative point. Eventually the outdoor noise when some people is going to party even at 3 AM. And the toilet seat could be nice if would be with soft close, to avoid accidentally noisy falling.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is right in the old town, very close to everything. everything was clean and like recently open. We got everything there, from the fridge and oven to hairdryer.

The bathroom shower could be better cleaned. Also the room mentioned balcony and sea view but there was none. The noise isolation wasn't good either, we coild hear the alarm of the person next door.
The location was really nice. The room was clean and had nice facilities. Also they gave us a little bottle of Madeira wine.

The personal was a bit deranged if we call them for any problem, the deposit isn’t specified when you make the reservation.
The location of the property was amazing, in the middle of city near everything you can need, it was clear and comfortable.

Check-in is very late and the the process of getting the keys, leaving luggage prior to chek-in time and picking up luggage which you have left with them after check-out is not smoothe. Luggage cannot be picked up after 6 pm. The deposit of 100 Euros was taken from us, even though there was no Mini Bar in the room. Gave deposit in cash, it was returned at check-out.
The location of this property is perfect for enjoying the centre of Funshal. Most sights are walkable and the two gardens can be reached easily by bus, bus stops are 300 mts from the property. The room was spacious and had excellent airconditioning and sound proofing, bed was comfortable. Many cafes and restraunts in the street below. Bonjour Cafe opens at 6am, lovely coffee and pasteries.

The city Center location means the noise high. This is very common, not a surprise.
The hosts at the reception are very friendly and accommodate my request on my arrival and leaving. On the same day I received the refund for the deposit through my bank.

I absolutely loved the warm welcome by the staff and quiet hotel. Nevertheless, it was almost on the most active road in Funchal, it was quiet and peaceful.

The room needed another mirror as the only one was over the sink, set back on the wall and difficult to use for make up etc.
Fantastic location in central Funchal, with very comfortable beds and a powerful shower.

Very loud music/noises from a club very near the accomodation during the evening and night. I know, it´s not the fault of the host, but I find it important to mention as it was really loud even though the windows were closed.

During the check-in you have to pay €100 either by cash or by card, which was not communicated clearly enough before. The return of the deposit wasn't immediate, had to ask several times, which was quite confusing. In general - poor and slow communication from the owner, not really friendly and understanding.
Superb location in the heart of Funchal - restaurants, shuttle, seaside, old town etc is nearby. Great value for the money. Really spacious and clean room, which had such a comfortable big bed and bedding - we slept really well. Delicious welcome treats in the room, which was a nice surprise. The facility has around 20 rooms in total, so it feels kinda like an hotel.
