Had a wonderful stay in Chez Maria Julia. Perfect location, near to the beach and shops and not far to the centre and other attractions. The staff in the hotel are extremely helpful and friendly and make your stay very comfortable. Also the food and menu is great. I would highly recommend.

I would have spent 3 days there maximum and spent the other 4 days in Tarrafal, instead.
In general I enjoyed my stay there, but Tarrafal it’s a different world, where you can actually feel the culture and be surrounded with beauty. Cidade abelha is also a must and it’s absolutely beautiful.
I would have loved to manage to see the typical ceramics, but people don’t talk much and don’t value much (unfortunately). I actually went to Sai Domingos on purpose to see it, but the locals said it was closed.

Praia is the capital of Cape Verde.
Praia is the capital of Cape Verde. The Santiago island is not the best if you are looking for a great beach experience. There are other islands with easy access that have superb beaches. We did a tour around the island which was interesting visiting Cidade Velha and Tarrafal as well as Sao Vicente. Tarrafal was a nice beach. The two main markets in Praia are a must see, also where you can buy some mementos.

Praia is a small "African" town, where you stroll around and enjoy the moment. There is actually nothing spectacular to see, but as a whole it is quite enjoyable. We walked thru Plato and along the beaches (Quebra Canela and Prainha). The restaurants there are really great: good food and nice view! But prices are higher than one would expect, more European.
All the staff in the hotel are really nice and helpful. It's my second stay at this hotel/apartment so I'm familiar with the check-in procedure. Trick is call them in advance that you're checking in on a specified time and that you want the key to be ready, confirm the amount you have to pay, and that you don't want the hassle of going to Hotel Santiago to pay and get the key (yes, check-in is at its mother hotel on a different location which is a huge hassle especially if you're coming from a long trip).
Good staff, place was spartan but mostly equipped for a short stay. I was here for a few nights after going to a few other islands in CV to see a different part of Praia (I stayed in Plateau at first) and there are some cool tapas and shisha bars nearby. While I didn't cook anything, there are basic facilities and a couple of supermarkets around the corner to the left on the bigger road. Also, vegans rejoice, the only vegan restaurant in Cape Verde is literally next door.
The size and the decoration of the room. You can sit outside in the little patio to read
The location is pretty nice, in the best street in Plato. Good restaurants (you must have Cachupa in Kasa Katxupa nearby and try the D Concept downstairs)
Small fridge to keep your food/drinks cold.
They washed our clothes and folded the same day
The pickup and drop off from/to the airport was arranged for us and Carlos, the driver, is a very cool guy!
We felt welcomed and relaxed during our stay in Praia thanks to our great experience at the Hotel Happy Day. The room was very clean with a nice balcony. AC, Wifi, Airportshuttle it all worked as stated on the Internet. The breakfast was very delicious. The staff is friendly and really flexible and so will provide you with help and tips for any situation. We would book this Hotel all over again.
Vielen Dank Hotel Happy Day!
I enjoyed the hospitality in the first place. My wife and I arrived in Praia at 2 am, and the team was there to welcome us and make sure we check in accordingly. Plus, the apartment is so neat, and very spacious. I definitely recommend the apartment without hesitation to anyone who wants to enjoy their vacations in a cosy, calm, secured and neighborhood. My wife and I had the best stay ever.🇸🇳❤️
The room was simple but equipped with a fridge. This was a great plus seeing the temperature in Praia. It is really well located as it is in Plateau. Also, it was really cheap for the location.
The person working there were super nice and gave me tips to get taxis, ordered my taxi to go to the port, to get tickets close to the hotel and so on.
The whole staff has been extremely kind and welcoming. We were travelling with our 9 months old daughters and they have been very nice to us and to her. The hotel is equipped with high chairs and they provided a cradle for our staying.
Breakfast and meals are delicious. We recommend this option for people travelling and staying in Praia.
Great position in the center of the most hip street in Praia's plateau. Very good comunication during the previous days, the host was kind enough to wait for us to change money the day after. Has a cheaper than average and very friendly paid shuttle that was great for transfer to and from the airport.
The host Maria was very helpful. She showed us places where we could buy food and assisted us with getting transport to go to the airport at a very reasonable rate. A very dependable person.
Very accommodating. We asked for a driver to pick us up last minute at 1am at the airport and they delivered. Centrally located. Very friendly staff as well
Would recommend overall.
The hotel was a basic hotel with good amenities for the area. I thought it was nice and did not really have any issues. The pool was large and there was a small fitness center.
Tito is super friendly and helping. Great bed and pillows, one of the best hot showers I had in Cape Verde. If I ever come back to Praia, would definately stay here again.
Great staff. Very friendly and accommodating. Great location in centre of pedestrian mall. Great food at restaurant attached to this hotel across the street..
A very clean and comfortable room in a charming hotel with friendly staff. An excellent breakfast served on the terrace. A 4 am airport transfer also provided.
