I have stayed in the Mash Tun on numerous occasions and always have enjoyed my stay, due to the friendliness of staff etc. and the excellent food and room comfort.
However on this recent visit, the only positive was the room comfort.
To edit: The mile long tree lined High Street has an attractive square and village green and situated right in the centre of the Village is the Aberlour Hotel.

Great butchers on the high street, amazing deli and wine shop and a great whiskey shop as well. Decent local supermarket. The Hotel has a really nice bar that serves excellent draught beers. Plenty of local whiskey distilleries. Brilliant fish and chip shop.
Beautiful walks along the river and a decent play area for children.
Amazing fishing on the river spey that can be booked at The Aberlour Hotel and the cost doesn't break the bank.

A nice little town with all the basics, Co-op, Ironmongers, Paper shop and Spey Larder with luxury foods.
A good Fish & Chip Shop and Chinese Takeaway.
The river walks run very close to the town centre.
There are a couple of pubs, at least, but we didn't try any.
A pretty Scottish Highland Town with beautiful countryside surroundings.
And quite level to walk around.

If you are a whisky lover, the place needs no introduction.
If you are a whisky lover, the place needs no introduction. If not, still a pretty little village in a scenic setting. Lots of waking opportunities and ever more distillery visit chances. As they all close at 5 or before, we developed a habit of visiting well-appointed whisky bars, which offer you an amazing selection of a wide range of brands. They even provide fair advice on dram discoveries, I suppose less biased than at any distillery.

The walk along the river spey is very easily accessible and an easy and beautiful walk. The chippy is good. The Dowans Hotel was excellent. The Mash Tun had good atmosphere and choice of whisky but the food was average. Public transport is good and the bus stand in the town displays electronic bus times. Parking in the town is free and plentiful. There is a beautiful delicate essence/food and sandwich shop called the Speyside Larder.

Our first time in that neck of the woods.
Our first time in that neck of the woods. Aberlour is positively huge in comparison to a much smaller Dufftown, where we started our trip! Both towns, and all the surrounding areas are beautiful, calm, quiet, feeling very secluded and out of the way when coming up from Edinburgh! The walks anywhere around there are amazing, but especially in Aberlour along the river Spey, which looked wild, pristine, clear and sparkling.
Mash Tun hotel and whiskey bar is amazing, and the food better than anywhere we have eaten in the Highlands, and better than most places in Edinburgh.
The accommodation is a renovated farm building set next to open countryside on the outskirts of Aberlour.
The renovation has been skillfully done using recycled materials locally sourced..
As a result it is a comfortable, quirky and unique Speyside property with lots of character which made our stay here both enjoyable and memorable. Loved the whisky theme with use off barrels, you knew when you woke up you were in the heart of Speyside.
Loved the book showing how the renovation to the building was carried out, absolutely outstanding.
Perfect location for discovering the very many sights and distilleries that Speyside has to offer. Very cosy B&B with incredibly friendly and helpful owners who even assisted us with ideas for visiting other parts of Scotland. The breakfast is plentiful and varied - the definite highlight of our stay. We spent four nights at this property as part of the Speyside Whiskey Festival and looked forward to flopping into bed after long days (and nights) of tasting some of the finest whiskies on the planet.
The location is perfect to visit distilleries in Speyside. It is safe, private, and quiet. The hosts are nearby and they are responsive and welcoming. The room itself is more like a small house, homey and tastefully decorated. The kitchen is extraordinarily well equipped. There are thoughtful, cozy amenities all throughout. We stayed there on the coldest days of the year and there were many means to keep ourselves and the room warm.
Just a lovely hotel, beautifully decorated. I stayed in the single room in the attic, which all kitted out perfectly. Bed and pillows were great. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Lovely breakfast selections. Don’t miss the chance to have Afternoon Tea with savory and sweet selections plus a scone with clotted cream (like whipped butter) and jam.
Lovely little family run B&B where the hosts, Jim & Eileen, made us feel like family. Meals were great, room very comfy, located a few moments walk to the Speyside Trail for some lovely hiking. Easy drive to the many distilleries that make Speyside the center of the whisky universe, many beautiful walks/hikes in the area.
The cottage is great, well-equipped and in a very convenient location, close enough to Aberlour to walk (and there's a walkway along the main road). The living room makes for a lovely place to chill at the end of a day exploring the area.
And Michelle was a very good, responsive and at the same time discreet host.
The location is fantastic, beautiful countryside views in every direction and as peaceful as you could wish.

The stay was fantastic! So peaceful and enjoyable, we didn't want to come home. Staff were so friendly and accommodating, especially when we asked to extend our stay. Plenty to do in Aberlour and is within walking distance of the distillery and a beautiful waterfall.
Would 100% stay again. Thank you so much!
The team at Dowans are one of the nicest I have ever come across. I stay there often and they always remember who we are. The rooms are spotless and the finishes are new and fresh. The food from the restaurant is great for both breakfast and dinner. One of the nicest family run hotels I've been to.
The property was the in the perfect location for everything we wanted to do in Speyside. Sharen was a very gracious host and gave us some wonderful recommendations. The place was very cozy and had everything we needed for the perfect stay!
A stunning house, set in a stone courtyard surrounded by beautiful countryside. The property is fresh and spotlessly clean throughout. The bedrooms are boutique hotel quality and everything is well equipped. Wifi signal was strong.
The location was amazing and the property very clean with everything we needed for a short stay. Very peaceful and quiet with plenty around Aberlour and only a short trip to the coast or into the Cairngorms.
Breakfast was very good, lots of choices and freshly prepared. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. The evening meals were excellent, great choice from menu, and delicious.
Beautiful country home, tucked away in a small village. extremely calm and peaceful.
Excellent breakfast choices, the hosts provide a breakfast menu which is very generous.
Comfortable bed in a decent-sized room; ample free parking behind the building; excellent location for visiting Speyside attractions; excellent onsite pub and restaurant.
We loved the quirky hotel. Award winning Cullen Skink for supper and nice spacious room. We especially liked playing old records on the record player in our room.
