The staff were efficient and friendly. The room was basic but clean and a bonus quiet pedestrian area. The room was quiet - essential as there was a car rally the night I arrived!
Location was very central and near -including a fantastic old town market shopping facilities and walking distance Archaeological museum .
Down side the lifts were out of order when I arrived.
The coffee machine made awful coffee.

The town/city has many new buildings after WW2.
The town/city has many new buildings after WW2. There is an extensive shopping area with many restaurants and bars, the older buildings are either being replaced or renovated, but the outlying suburbs need development and some proper Town & Country planning application. The boundaries between domestic, retail, industry & commerce need greater definition.
Great potential for tourism, with areas of domestic and tourist housing showing signs of its artistic residents "flare".

This is good for a weekend trip, but if you are staying longer hire a car and tour, landing here and returning via Chana. We took out the extra insurance via Booking.com, very wise because the vehicle was hit by a driver while parked, who drove off. Due to the state of the roads and the increased traffic this is common, there was another couple in the hire office that had also been hit while parked. Standards of driving in Greece are poor. Booking.com paid out within 24 hours of the claim. This was a return visit to Crete after 20 years. The nation is in steep decline with appalling infrastructure and an unhappy population. We will not return.

Heraklion is now the main city of Crete, where years ago it was Chania. Over recent years the central area has been upgraded with paved walking to the shops and square. If you look upwards you can still see the signs of previous Venetian times and around old constructions. There is a street market area now selling the usual tourist pieces, which has changed from a market that had fruit, vegetables, fish etc. The side streets still have the small restaurants of old. As you walk down towards the harbour area you should visit Ligo Krasi, Ligo Thalassa as their food is superb traditional Cretan and used by locals. The harbour area is good to walk along and watch the cruise ships and ferries. Ferries leave from Heraklion daily to local islands such as Santorini and provide an excellent service. The modernised bus station just 15 minutes from centre will allow you to move to all areas of Crete on clean efficient buses. Heraklion can get very busy during the weekend or bank holiday times, when locals visit and sit around the square in the cafes and small bars, providing a great atmosphere.

Heraklio is a great place to visit!.
Heraklio is a great place to visit!. We stayed for over a month and were never bored. There is a very extensive pedestrian area with a huge variety of shops, places of cultural interest, restaurants and snack bars. The local cuisine is reasonably priced. The city is very busy with locals and tourists mixing in the pedestrian areas.
Heraklio is a great base for visiting the rest of the island as most of the major urban areas are also on the north coast. There are very efficient local and regional bus services and of course car and moped hire.
For those interested in history and culture Heraklio is the place to visit. I do recommend reading up on the incredible history of the island before visiting as this will help the visitor better understand the context of what they are visiting.
We visited in March to April and combined a city holiday with a beach holiday. There are two very long beaches very near the city centre.
Almost everyone we met spoke very good English so we never really got to use any of the little Greek we learned before travelling. In one month we never used any cash as all business take electronic payment per mobile phone, credit cards etc.

It's a nice town with a lot of shops, cafes, restaurants etc etc. People were nice. It has a spider-like outlay and you could easily get lost. GPS was not working well. I ended up searching half an hour for my hotel.
The best breakfast in Crete!! The variety of specialties and the freshness of everything is beyond ! The staff both the reception & the lovely ladies in the cafe are exceptionally attentive and helpful! This elegant hotel is just a short walk to the historic port which has in particular two excellent restaurants and just a short walk to both the main bus station and port .
To top it off the rooftop pool with the most comfortable lounge mattresses overlooking the port make it a place to remember. You won’t want to leave!!
⭐️💫 PERFECT 5 Star ! ! ⭐️ 💫
From the style and interior design to the location, views , linens and high quality towels and amenities. It’s an amazing place to stay and one would be so lucky to find this Casa. Everything is stunning and has the comforts better than any five star hotel and we have travelled the world. Host is a class act and helpful for anything you might need from local spots for coffee and Greek delicacies to the best restaurants locally in Heraklion. Don’t miss this location. Well worth it !
The customer service was excellent, the room was comfortable and quiet, and the breakfast was fantastic. They worked to fix quickly address any issue or problem we faced. I highly recommend this hotel. We enjoyed the jacuzzi as well. In other hotels in Crete, the showers are often extremely small, you have to press a special button and wait to use the hot water, and you can't throw toilet paper in the toilet. That wasn't the case here. Everything was comfortable and easy.
The hotel room was impeccable. The complimentary water, wine , macroons, chocolates etc was a lovely and delicious surprise. The hotel staff was awesome, and breakfast was delicious. Lots of variety.
It was about 20 minutes' walk to the city center but we didn't mind the walk. Plus, the hop on hop off buses stop at the hotel. We had the executive room. Do yourself a favor and stay at this hotel. We will definitely stay here when next we visit Crete.
We love this hotel. It is so convenient for the airport, yet in a quiet area, with easy parking.
This was our second stay here. We used it as a start and end point for our two-week tour all over Crete and we were more than happy to be returning for our last two nights before flying home.
Everything was super comfortable, spotless and stylish, and the Batoo Cafe was excellent.
We felt really cared for by all the staff. Thank you!
The hotel was really nice and clean. Near to the hotel are bus stops to go to the city center and to beaches. Also really close to the hotel is a KTEL station from which you can travel around Crete. The personel is really nice and helpful. There are nice restaurants and cafeterias around the hotel and in front of it there is a supermarket. From the hotel is really easy to get to the airport by bus or by foot.
The hotel was spotlessly clean, and the balcony we had was huge. There was a large selection of hot and cold food, which was without doubt the best we've had in Greece for many years. Plenty of really nice restaurants nearby, and a few minutes walk into the centre. The beach is about 30 mins walk.Staff were really helpful and friendly
The hotel offers amazing experience, I didn´t expect that much on Crete. The staff was very nice and helpful (especially ladies at the breakfast), breakfast was so fresh and delicious I would come back just because of it! Room is also nicely furnished, super comfy bed, Korres amenities in the bathroom... I hope to come back!
Budget hotel close to the airport, 20 min walk, or 5 min by taxi. 24hr frontdesk. Late check in is no problem. Very friendly staff. A drink late at night is no problem. Nice rooms, old airco but does the job. Good beds. Nothing special but has everything you need at a very reasonable price for Crete
Hotel is very clean, modern, amazing location, close to many shops, restaurants and 15 min taxi ride from the beach. Breakfast had a lot of selection for kids and adults. Very friendly, professional and helpful staff. We loved our rooms. We’ll definitely come back to stay at the Olive Green hotel.
We stay here every year when arriving in Crete, the hotel is very well situated, overlooking the harbour)(amazing views from the breakfast room) close to the centre.
Inside parking possible close to the hotel.
Rooms are clean and simple, noise isolation is very good.
I liked the location, the staff and the breakfast. It is located very close to the city centre, the staff was very friendly and accommodating and breakfast was very good. There was no parking, but some private parking spots near the hotel made me a special offer.
Good location for the shops and or to catch buses to certain points of Crete. Recommend going down towards the waterfront to enjoy the numerous amounts of restaurants that are down there. Breakfast was delicious also at Atrion.
the front desk staff were fantastic. super helpful and great recommendations, from arranging airport transportation to restaurant connections - they made it a 5 star review
Really nice place near the center of Heraklion and near the sea. Apartment is quite big and clean, convenient self check in. Good place to start discover Crete
