Sofia is the Bulgarian capital and its largest city, and is situated at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in the very centre of the Balkan Peninsula. With a variety of architectural styles, picturesque scenery and easy access to outdoor activities, this city is a definite must-see!
From well-preserved city walls built in the 7th-century BC through to the early Medieval buildings. From the 4th-century Rotunda St. George and 10th-century Boyana Church with its stunning 13th-century frescoes to Socialist-era monumental constructions, Sofia offers a real treat for the city dwellers and history lovers.
Most of the popular landmarks are located in the Oborishte district, the most central part of the city featuring plenty of greenery, cobbled streets and the most popular landmark, the Neo-Byzantine Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
Sofia offers plenty of natural sites too, including the renowned thermal and mineral springs, the primary reason Thracians established the city here before the 7th-century BC. Enjoy a walk in the most popular parks, the Borisova gradina or the impressive Vitosha Nature Park with over 270 square km situated entirely within the city limits.
From hiking to skiing on the Vitosha and from sightseeing to relaxing in mineral springs, Sofia offers a plethora of fun for everyone! On Booking.com you can find nearly 190 properties in the city: from 5-star accommodation in the city centre to convenient hotels near Sofia Airport.
Beautiful and lively city. A lot of places of interest to visit - the Cathedral Alexander Nevski is impressive.
A lot of museums, art galleries and nice city parks and Vitosha mountain park.
A lot of restaurants with excellent food.
Easy walking in the central part of the city. Public transportation is very convenient. Taxi rides are not expensive.
Definitely recommend to everyone.

Sofia is very walkable.
Sofia is very walkable. I didn't need to use the metro or taxis for my itinerary. I spent 2.5/3 days there and saw everything I needed to leisurely.
The churches are beautiful. I recommend visiting them all, even briefly. Vitosha Boulevard is great but a little bit of a tourist trap. I'd still recommend walking along there and picking up souvenirs, having food and drink.
Shishman Street is less of a tourist trap and is lively during the evenings.
Food is good in general. There are plenty of options. I particularly liked Arbat (Russian restaurant) which is opposite the Russian Orthodox Church, St Nicholas. There are also many market stalls around, mostly between here and the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
If you want some comfort/western food, I'd recommend Skaptoburger on Shishman Street - really good.
Nightlife is also great - Shishman Street and those nearby (Bar Friday, Beach Bar, Kristal Bar, etc.) and also many nightclubs around if that's of interest.

Sofia is a capital yo get lost on The paths.
Sofia is a capital yo get lost on The paths. To walk through the city and to try all the pastries and food is an unforgettable experience. The emblematic monuments, specially the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral will leave you breathless.
Hotel is at a central place so everything can be easily reached walking. Also the Metro is close by that takes you directly to the airport. A lot security around due to parliament, president palace etc. which are just next door. Supermaket in 3min Walking distance. Can recommend Skarabar for Bulgarian Food. Hotel Staff was really nice. Rooms were simple and clean. Television had even german channels. Coffee/Tea and kette available in the room. A lot choices for breakfast. All in all it was a really nice stay.
Everything , such a beautifully furnished hotel, really stands apart from the soulless modern hotels. Such interesting pieces of art and furniture. Whoever designed and furnished it, did it with so much love and passion for the building and their business. Large room, ultra modern bathroom. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Staff so pleasent and helpful. Really it was a joy to stay here, one of the best, if not the best hotel I've stayed in in Bulgaria . Can't wait to return.
Very helpful and professional staff. They have a great understanding of what service means. The managress was very client oriented and was always suggesting providing help to make the guests feel at home. Breakfast and lunch were awesome, and I got to taste Bulgaria wine and Rakia.
Spectacular service from the tall receptionist lady with directions and tips of places to visit and how to commute to the destination.
Will definitely be an ambassador to this hotel
Very nice small hotel close to the very center of Sofia. The room was big, clean, fresh, and modern, while the kitchen was well equipped. The bathroom, unlike many in Bulgaria, had a normal shower cabin. The staff was friendly and nice. Street parking on the street was possible, free of charge overnight, paid during the day via SMS or some local app on the smartphone. Good price quality ratio, strongly recommend. Will stay there again when next time in Sofia.
The bedt part of Art’Otel is its amazing staff. Everyone at the reception, at breakfast, and at evening happy hour is super pleasant, kind, attentive, and loving.
Breakfast is five star: homemade typical Bulgarian cuisine, variety of fruits, typical European breads, local jams, honey in comb, and you name it. They give you their heart with their food. They do everything possible for you to feel at home. Their generosity is unique.
This hotel has a lot of art. The rooms are spacious and actually look better than in the picture. The bath was fantastic and the water pressure was the strongest I have felt in years (I guess Bulgaria doesn’t have water restriction yet).
The beds are comfortable. There are 2 metro stops near the hotel and the centre of Sofia is a 7mins walk away.
Awesome Hotel with "Grand Hotel" flair. Nice and clean rooms, really great breakfast and especially very friendly staff. We were travelling with our one year old baby and they were so lovely with him!! Plus the location of the hotel is really great, it's absolutely in the center of Sofia with everything in walking distance.
Very convenient location to explore Sofia. The room was clean, on the fifth floor overlooking Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and Parliament building. The pillows were great. Breakfast was a bit overprized in comparison by other restaurants/cafes in Bulgaria, but the food was good with plenty of choices.
Feels like home! Highly trained, helpful, and courteous staff (a rarety in Bulgarian hotels). The room came with an amazing view of Sofia city. A big bonus is that parking came for free in Casa Boyana, while other chain hotels in Sofia charge between 20 to 40 euro per day for parking (seriously!).
We enjoyed our stay at the Leda Hotel. Although breakfast is not offered, they provided us with coffee and some traditional Bulgarian breakfast items. They offered us a lift to the zoo & they kept our luggage after checkout. Rooms are clean and warm (visited in March). We would stay again.
After a week in the Bulgarian mountains, this hotel offered all the luxury we wanted - the rooms are big and clean with great views, the beds - comfy, the bathroom - clean and luxurious. We ate in the Mediterranean restaurant and it was excpetional. Would 100% recommend.
The modern look inside of the hotel, including room. Very friendly staff, even with my weak Bulgarian (only know three words) where really helpful and supportive. Car wash next to it, which is great if you rent a car and want to return it clean:-). Very clean room.
The hotel was amazing. So far I never been in better one in Bulgaria. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Always ready to help and support. Definitely I will visit the hotel again and I would recommend it to anyone who want peaceful and quiet places.
The room, the service, the atmosphere, the decorations of the hotel, and the breakfast were the best that I have experienced in all of my stays in Bulgaria -- even though some others were rated higher and more expensive. I will definitely come back!
Location in the centre of Bulgaria’s 🇧🇬capital, ideal for short walks in the central part; very close to historical monuments, art galleries, theaters, state institutions.
Very clean rooms, very kind and helpful staff
Great apartment with amazing artwork in the bathroom. Cosy kitchen and living room. Great location, next to a variety of big grocery stores, walking distance from Bulgaria Mall
