At the guest house, every unit has a desk. There is a private bathroom with shower in some units, along with bathrobes, slippers and a hair dryer. At the guest house, each unit includes bed linen and towels.

What an absolutely amazing place! Our room was so quiet and comfy and the shared toilet and shower was clean and spacious. The kitchen was so well stocked (spices, utensils, pans, etc). This guest house is better than the pictures! The views in and around the house are absolutely breathtaking. I enjoyed having my coffee out on the front deck with an amazing view of the mountains. The owner was eager to help make us comfortable and offer suggestions on what to do in the area :) thank you!!

Offering free WiFi and set on the bank of a stream, Chalet Karaka offers accommodation 3 minutes' drive from Takaka village in Golden Bay. The 5-star guest house has river views, and guests can enjoy access to BBQ facilities .

Chalet Karaka was absolutely delightful - a hidden gem, tucked away in a beautiful, tranquil bushy setting with a small picturesque stream running at the bottom of the garden. The shower was fantastic - excellent pressure with a lovely glass side looking out onto the private garden and stream. The room was spacious and well appointed and the icing on the cake was the generous outdoor undercover living area/deck complete with a Weber for all your barbecue requirements. Ngairie, our host, was friendly, welcoming and very helpful.

Waitapu Springs B&B is set in Takaka and offers a spa and wellness centre and a shared lounge. This 3-star bed and breakfast features a spa experience, with its sauna and hot tub. The bed and breakfast also offers free WiFi, free private parking and facilities for disabled guests.

I thought it was just another homestay B&B probably a granny flat attached to the host's house where I may not even see people but it turned out to be a surprising encounter. It also operates spa and sauna that's free to B&B guests. Breakfast is included, not just those cereal or oatmeal but actually with more choices to cater different needs. Serge could even cook eggs in the way at your choice. Serge and Maria are both obviously passionate with their business. They sent useful information and guides about driving through Takaka Hill and answered questions timely before my arrival, navigated me the room and facilities when I arrived pretty late which left no fuss for me. The property has a vintage theme but the facilities are modern and hygeine. It's just a 5 minute drive from the Takaka town centre, easy for me to get there after dinner. Takaka is a stylish small town with quite some artistic shops.

The hosts were very welcoming, helpful, and fun to talk with. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast, conversation, and the wonderful and varied artwork on the walls. Marc and Janice were the perfect hosts.

Guests have access via the main front door to the upstairs bedrooms, plus bathroom and small lounge area. A small fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, plus crockery, cutlery and glassware, are provided in the lounge area, along with tea, coffee, milk and sugar. Continental breakfast is served downstairs in the farmhouse kitchen and includes cereal, fruit, yogurt, toast and spreads.

I loved the gardens, the beds with flannel sheets and down comforters, the dog Zoey and mostly the host Jude. It was all so lovely!

The 1-bdrm unit was super spacious and had lots of sunny spots for drying the clothes.. We had a little semi-private patio with table and chairs. The shower was good and there was a separate room for the toilet (luxury, no manoeuvring around the basin to go to the loo). Our host Lisa was friendly and helpful. The motel was a short, flat walk from the cafés.
