Free WiFi is available throughout the property and 18th Century Swahili House Museum is 100 metres away. The house is a beautiful gem within old lamu town. The architecture is stunning, the rooms are freshened by fans and the pool is great to escape the day’s heat. The house staff is incredibly helpful and Peter was a great caretaker. We would also warmly recommend arranging a tour of the old town and of shela, as well as a boat tour if one wishes, with Abu. Abu is knowledgeable and loves his job; he is a great storyteller and a great artist (ask to see his recycled art). Walking around Lamu with him and learning about this unique place from him was a wonderful experience.

This place never disappoints. This was my second time staying here and it still exceeded my expectations.
The flat I stayed in was spacious and thoughtfully designed with some artful collections of antique Swahili style furniture. There was access to a private fully equipped kitchenette with an adjacent outdoor dining/ lounging area. The room was airy and well ventilated and also had a very spacious bathroom that had great shower pressure!
Joshua is an exceptional host, responsive, warm and welcoming and very attentive. He has even made provisions for Solar lights in case of power outages which were infrequent during my stay and only lasted a few minutes at a time.
The Wilderbeeste provides all the comforts and necessities of a home away from home yet its quirky and historical design provides a sense of adventure and novelty needed for a retreat!
Can't wait to return for a longer stay!

The rooftop has a lovely breeze and sitting area where the Wi-Fi reaches. There is also a very nice sitting area around the small pool. Large and lovely private terrace with a beautiful view of the water. Clean and spacious room. Central Shela, it's easy to reach all you need in the village. Breakfast was fine and the staff were all very polite and friendly! Would recommend.
The location of Subira House could not be better if you wish to live in Lamu village. The staff as well as Christina were both helpful and friendly. I felt at home. Excellent value for money
The staff, food and overall ambience made our visit one of the nicest stays we’ve had in a long time. Immaculate facilities. The place is just so tastefully decorated and well thought out. Morning coffee on the terrace overlooking the harbour…. The village of Shela is lovely. No cars. Clean beaches.
We had a beautiful room (the Kind Suite) with a fabulous large terrace strewn with day beds and nice furniture with fantastic views over the village and island. The staff were extremely helpful, the food was delivious, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom big and clean. We really enjoyed our stay and would return.
This is a very nice guesthouse with friendly helpful staff. We had a room with shuttered windows on three sides and a balcony. Our view was across the water and in the street below we watched the boats coming and going, people at work with their donkeys, children swimming in the sea. Right next door is a great restaurant. Lamu is buzzing with life without mass tourism. A boat ride to Shela village takes you to a more conventional beachfront holiday. It is lovely there and the food and wine delightful.
