I needed to complain most strongly about a 2 night stay in The Crown Inn, Bishop's Waltham.
We booked it thinking it would be a good place to take some friends for dinner whist on our trip South from Yorkshire.
We had booked two dinners, one for 3 people and one for 5 people on the Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
On the Tuesday afternoon, just 3 hours before our booking we were informed that there was a "problem with the kitchen" and they had to cancel our two bookings.
Strangely they could still provide our two booked breakfasts.
The room was lovely, but we noticed at once that the waste plug in the washbasin wouldn't work properly.
We coped with it that night and then the next morning there was no hot water!
We were told that the gas had tripped and it would be sorted.
We reported the washbasin problem and was told that would be sorted.
The room was not serviced during the day.
We were told when we left that we should have requested the room service, but we hadn't been told this.
So we didn't get any replacement coffee. tea, or water.
Also the water in the washbasin was still cold and the waste tap had still not been repaired by the evening.
The water was still cold that night and in the morning.
Fortunately the shower was presumably electric as it worked well.
On the positive side we had four excellent breakfasts, but the service was rather slow.
It was useful to be able to recharge our electric vehicle overnight.
We paid £318 for these two nights, but did feel that we should be eligible for some sort of refund as this is hardly the sort of accommodation we would expect for that price.
I await your response.

Bishops Waltham is a large village/small town which has many attractive buildings, very typical of the Hampshire area. Good selection of restaurants/pubs. The ruins of the Bishops palace are free to wonder round. The town itself is close to several further places of interest with Winchester about 20 mins away, Portsmouth which can be accessed via road or train - we took the train from Fareham which was about 20 mins and took us to Portsmouth harbour station next to which is the Gun Wharf shopping centre and the historic docks. Marwell Zoo also close by as is the coast. Lots of very attractive villages and countryside including the Meons and Hambledon which close by has the famous Bat & Ball pub with lots of cricket memorabilia.

Bishops Waltham is a local hub with plenty of history and in lovely surroundings. Places of particular interest are the Bishops' Palace, the Crown Inn and the parish church. The variety of buildings down the high street give an indication of the history of the town and the number and variety of eating establishments give plenty of choice. Josie's is great for lunch and I can recommend the Anatolian Turkish restaurant just south of the town.
Further afield Winchester and Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard offer plenty to see and do.

The town centre was a a major highlight.
The town centre was a a major highlight. As I approached Bishop's Waltham, I got the impression there was nothing around it and I would be staying in some rural outcrop, but I was pleasingly wrong. Bishop's Waltham is a superb place.
I got up in the morning and following a delightful breakfast I strolled around Saint Peter's Church, which was charming. After that, and the absolute highlight of the trip, were the ruins of the Bishop of Winchester's Palace. I had heard bishops in the Middle Ages received large estates and held considerable political power, but this place put it into context. Even as a ruin, it is breathtaking.

Lovely well kept village with lots of variety restaurants/pubs/artisan shops and little alleys to walk down. Stunning ruins of Bishops Palace that we could walk through and view from our room. Fish & Chips a winner sitting next to the village pond with the ducks and geese. This has got to be a place to return.

The crown inn, Wasn’t a bad stay, I’ve had a lot better for a lot less money, the bed was not level as floors slope, and this was quiet bad, not just a little bit, the breakfast was very good, a lot of choice, was quite noisy as we were over the bar, not good if your very tired, but did stop by 11.30, staff were friendly, didn’t like the idea of pets being allowed to stay in the rooms if I’m honest, so would not stay there again

A beautiful historic building with lots of character. We stayed in the Formidable room, bijou but very cosy and very clean. Good quality shower and nice toiletries and soft fluffy towels. Bedding was of high quality and very comfortable. Breakfast was OK, eggs were overdone but overall good selection to choose from.
Special thanks to Evie, Marie and Abby for their superb customer service.
Beautiful hotel in a lovely village, would come back to stay.
Food was wonderful. The hotel was definitely based in the 16th century, very difficult for a disabled person.
Bed was huge and high, difficult for me to get in and out. Far too many pillows and cushions on the bed,
made things worse. Lighting was very dim. Breakfast was excellent and was included in the B & B. Dinner
was excellent. Friend had dinner with me and we both enjoyed it.
Lovely pub/hotel situated on the edge of the village centre. Very old charming building with a lot of history. Good size bar and restaurant with excellent food. The breakfasts were superb. Room was very nice, very large bed and plenty of space with a large en-suite. Plenty of parking. Staff excellent especially Jay and Libby who were both helpful and attentive.
The hotel was gorgeous, there is so much history in the building
Staff were brilliant
Room was comfortable and decorated to a very high standard.
Loved that the shops are literally across the road and that the Abbey ruins are also a stones throw away.
Absolutely zero zero zero complaints. Staff were AMAZING.food excellent.bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in. Been in 5 and 6 star hotels all over the world.spent a year in Las Vegas.. this place was the best place I've ever stayed in.
very authentic property with a place in history of the UK as to Naval Heritage. Close to Portsmouth & Southampton & Bishops Waltham itself has a friendly country town / village feeling plus Abbey ruins nearby.
The ancient building is wonderful and its location perfect, in the center of delightful Bishops Waltham. Exposed beams, cosy bar, quaint restaurant area, all beautifully maintained and tastefully decorated.
Check-in was good - we had assistance getting our luggage to our room. The position of the hotel is good for access to the town and to main routes around the area. Breakfast was good.
Great location for visiting Bishops Waltham, nice size very clean room with ensuite which had a lovely powerful shower.
Good selection for breakfast all cooked exactly how I like it.
