John Street is a charming traditional "High Street" with a good mix of shops. Porthcawl has some good pubs and restaurants and nice walks on the promenade. Great beaches too but it's the Bristol Channel so chilly most of the year...

Porthcawl is a traditional seaside town.
Porthcawl is a traditional seaside town. Full of friendly locals. Lovely pubs and cafes and the best ice cream ever from Sidoli's. Our favourite pubs for great food is the Salt Water Inn and the Globe. The Boat House is our favourite fish and chip shop. Always a queue as the fish is cooked to order. Worth the wait as it's delicious. Beautiful sandy beaches great for sandcastles. Donkey rides in the summer at Coney beach right next to the Funfair. At Rest Bay there is a surf school and a lovely restaurant with fantastic views. Also there is a great board walk with the beach on one side and a golf course on the other which then leads onto the coastal path. Porthcawl is a great base for visiting Cardiff Swansea and many other great places. Every week through the summer one of the local pubs puts on a great and free firework display down on the beach.

Not being able to walk very far.
Not being able to walk very far. We were able to enjoy the walk along the prom to the harbour. And there was a land train that you could take to go further afield. There were lots of cafes and restaurants.

Beautiful place with a lovely walk along seafront from Trecco Bay to harbour. Plenty of restaurants and shops a short walk down side streets from seafront. A lot of money spent and continuing investment in keeping Porthcawl modern. Aldi store being built near seafront. Plenty of activities for children including a funfair. First class fish and chips at Finnegans and Beales. Rest Bay car park with sea views and a new Watersports centre. Relaxing cuppa at Seabank hotel.
The bed in the King's Room was very comfortable and the residents lounge was most welcoming particularly with the complimentary wine. The bathroom in the King's Room was good and the shower worked well. My sister was in the French Room and they loved it. We thought that it was very nice too. So if you have a choice between the King's and the French Room we would recommend the French room. Annette was a very engaging host and I could not fault her hospitality. The location is excellent with easy access to the town
spacious but very cosy apartment.Thick pile carpeting throughout except kitchen and bathroom.Very well equipped kitchen including dishwasher and cooker, kettle and toaster .also has a tall fridge freezer and superb dining area next to kitchen .a great flat screen TV in front lounge area , very comfortable sofas in front lounge and middle lounge areas.Plenty of storage space in the double bedroom .Convenient location to Porthcawl town one way and to Trecco Bay caravan park the other way.
I grew up with my family residing between Nottage Porthcawl and France. The Seabank has pride of place on our Esplanade, built in the Art Deco style its lends a touch of faded opulence. My former friends family used to manage the Seabank in the 1970s.At one time my dear grand-dad who had a title and knew all the late Royals was a chef there.I like the spacious lounges+the wooden staircase with paintings. Also a special mirror underneath a canopy ceiling.I shall move back to Porthcawl.
Finally having stayed in various accom only places these past few months in Porthcawl, this one is what i would expect.
Perfect in clean, tidy, well maintained and location, unlike so many other sub-standard basic guest houses, hotels and private houses.
There's a welcome pack of, tea, coffee, sugar milk and a few biscuits.
Other so called accom should take note, this is the standard.
The location was lovely and the entertainment was great. The hotel was accessible easily for my mum who struggles to get up stairs. The sea view room was beautiful and spacious and fantastic value for money. The evening entertainment was great fun and it was a suprise to have it on out of season which we thoroughly enjoyed. Drinks were cheap but the barman could use a smile!
Excellent location, not too close to main hub but within easy walking distance of facilities, beach and Porthcawl town.
Was clean with plenty of space in lounge area. Has everything you need for a self catering holiday. (No toilet roll but shop close by so not a major issue for us)
Everyone had a lovely time despite storm ciaran's best efforts.
We simply loved this property all around. Everything from the location, to the cleanliness, the amenities, and the comfort. The value we received was amazing. We had a great week visiting family nearby and visiting the beach in Porthcawl. We really loved it. This 4 bedroom home can sleep 8 and we were spoiled as a family of 4.
Everything! The property was very close to the beach and easy walking to Porthcawl. Great facilities and the property was very well equipped, very clean and a true home from home. Great hosts - very clear instructions and they reply to any questions immediately. Thank you. I can’t wait to return.
We loved the character and charm of this place and all of the quirky and fun decor. The location is great with easy access to town, Trecco Bay and the beach. The owner is a lovely gentleman who always went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable.
It’s very close to Rest Bay and the esplanade with shops and restaurants. My bag was stolen from the beach when I was swimming and the hotel key was in it. I texted and had a new key at the building within 20 minutes. Just amazing and I was so thankful.
Staff very helpful and friendly.
Lovely community feel which was also extended to visitors.
Room clean and comfortable. Great location to walk down into Porthcawl without being in the middle of town. Food was very good
