Beyond The Full Monty
Partially within the Peak District, Sheffield is best known for being the setting of ‘The Full Monty’, a film whose title means the whole works. Indeed, vibrant Sheffield has the whole works - excellent shopping, great nightlife and an impressive sporting heritage.
It first came to fame during the Industrial Revolution for its pioneering role in the UK steel industry. One technique invented here is commemorated in the name of its most famous theatre – The Crucible, home of the Snooker World Championships.
Close by are the peaceful Winter Gardens with their multi-arched roof. The Peace Gardens are overlooked by the elegant town hall, and the focal building of the impressive Botanical Gardens somewhat resembles Crystal Palace, also by the same architect.
The city’s 2 football teams – Sheffield United and Wednesday – play at Bramall Lane and Hillsborough Stadium respectively. The cutting-edge English Institute of Sport is also based here, and the nearby Sheffield Arena is a prime UK venue for music and entertainment. The best shopping is found in the Meadowhall Centre near Rotherham.
Booking.com’s Sheffield accommodation includes city centre hotels with parking, others by Victoria Train Station, and guest houses near Doncaster Sheffield Robin Hood Airport.
Sheffield is a brilliant place for a short visit. There's so much to do. It's a vibrant city with something for everyone – gigs, arts, countryside, shopping, people-watching. Very friendly to visitors. Plenty of trams and buses makes car-free travel easy. If you are travelling by car, allow plenty of time because it can get busy at peak periods. There is plenty of safe parking (try Qpark) but it's not cheap.
First time I'd been to a show at the City Hall, and I'm really impressed by the venue. Look up at the painted ceilings. Very comfortable seats, and excellent views of the stage.

The absolute chaos in the middle of town.
The absolute chaos in the middle of town. Why they couldn’t do one bit and finish it before going on to another part, I don’t know. There was only work being done on limited zones so planning could have caused far less inconvenience.
Also, it was very annoying that we couldn’t hail a taxi and had to walk through the cold and wet to get one and be inconvenienced by walking around all the scaffolding etc!
We loved the restaurants, however. Pizza Express was very helpful with our three small nieces and nephew. Piccolino made us very welcome and had delicious food. We also ate at Ask Italian, altogether positive.
The potholes and lumpy roads made driving around very scary.

A beautiful city which despite its past economic difficulties, is recovering & thriving. The old buildings are gorgeous & the regeneration activities seem to be sympathetic to that. The people are lovely, so welcoming & cheerful. I will definitely go back for a longer visit.

Great city to walk around. Lots of parks, shops, activities.
Great city to walk around. Lots of parks, shops, activities. Try Church, Temple of fun for completely vegan good (we are not vegan) but food was fantastic and fun decor. Wilson Carlile for good value for money accommodation and fantastic location for exploring the city.
Location was great - really close to the city centre. parking available £5 which was CHEAP, and the staff were really friendly and helpful.
Excellent hotel
Lovely welcome.
We booked a basic room but was given a free upgrade. Lovely big room, fab shower and a comfy bed.
Kettle in room with tea, coffee, milk etc.
We had delicious Traditional English breakfast.
Would definitely stay again
Met the hosts, a lovely young couple whose communications before arriving was really good. Clear information as to how to locate the key and the access to the free underground parking. Very clean, fully equipped. Nice touch was the proper coffee and tea in containers, not cheap sachets. Slept well, good quality mattress and bedding. Would definitely stay here again when in Sheffield.
Communication was excellent. We had 10 of us staying for a stag do and the whole house was an amazing place to stay - well presented, modern, and tidy. Location was perfect for us, less than 10 minutes walk to Sheffield city and for us the other way to a 5 a side centre where we were attending for some stag sports activities. So much cheaper than buying a hotel for the group we had!
I wanted a single room which they had. This worked out much cheaper than the average hotel, especially as it included city centre parking and a nice breakfast. It's a short walking distance to eateries.
This place is no frills but it had everything I needed. It was very clean, well kept, and friendly, helpful staff. It was quiet and relaxing.
I'd definitely stay again.
Context... This is a budget hotel. And folk need to be realistic about what they expect. Overall though, great stay, friendly staff and room comfortable and clean. Hotel was quiet. Sand check in and out were quick. Easy access to Sheffield city centre
Having an iron and ironing board in the room was very convenient.
Would recommend. And would stay here again.
much smaller than we expected for a family room. First time staying in an easy hotel and the last. although functional for some people on a budget, it’s not for us. reception is like an airport check in, after that you’re on your own. The only plus point for us is its location near Forge ponds and lots of food options close by.
I like the building, the photos hanging in hotel to introduce Sheffield's history, the room renovation and set up which let me feel integrated into the old history. The heating tube is very good which can help me dry the washed clothes easily.
The receptionist are very polite, patient and helpful on solving problems.
Beautiful Hotel, close to the city centre. Lovely Contemporary rooms. Immaculate!. Great Staff, menu, Restaurant and Breakfast. staff can’t do enough for you. No issues checking in and out of the Hotel.
Had a great time , I will be back. I have stayed here many times before. it is always my go to Hotel in Sheffield.
I like it all. The room and the hotel are beautifully decorated, and the beds (medium firm, which I like!) and duvets are comfortable. Literally all of us had a sound sleep. Full English breakfast included is lovely. Ample parking space too. The staff are friendly and helpful. Will stay again if visiting Sheffield.
The hotel was in a good location just outside the city centre of Sheffield.Nice size rooms with good facilities. Easy parking. comfy bed, fridge, desk table and two chairs. On suite shower. Good size TV.Tea and coffee facilities. Wi-Fi available. Restaurant and bar on site. Pool and sauna available.
Lovely staff.
Different style of hotel . staff were friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable . Breakfast was good and the hotel is situated in a good location for Owlerton stadium, Sheffield wednesday stadium , Hillsborough park and the city centre. The hotel including breakfast was good value for money
The location of the hotel is excellent, within an easy taxi ride of the city. The area is lovely and the grounds large and impressive. It is one of the best located (and best looking) hotels in Sheffield (if you are looking to be out of the city centre).
The spa was amazing , the room was very tidy , clean the bath was very clean and alot of toilet roll the shower was very nice massive mirrors the hotel was amazing overall
The location is excellent, the corner is KFC Only 10 minutes walk to the city centre. Trams pass here.
The price is also quite cheap because it is a budget hotel
