Staff very attentive and very hospitable. Food is excellent. Property very well maintained and exude a tranquil charm as it’s located next to the river. Love the onsen spa pool. Absolutely everything! We were looking for a true traditional Japanese home stay experience and we got exactly what we wanted. Aki is such a great host and really makes you feel at home. If you're looking for an authentic Japanese experience, then you need to stay here! Thank you Aki, we will definitely be coming back again.

I did a one day trip, I went there just because of the naturals onsen, and it was the best decision, I arrived about 10:00 at leave at the same time of the next day. Honestly I don't think is a trip for more than 3 days.
Gero is a beautiful city, it has a few museums that can be seen in one period of the day. As the city is small, it doesn't need car or bus to go around if no one has fiscal disabilities.
This was my second time at Japan, and I regret not going to Gero the first time as well.

Out of all the places we ate in, I think we enjoyed eating in Unasho the most. They serve unagi, which is a specialty of Nagoya, their neighboring prefecture. There are some negative reviews about unasho, about how it's not value for money, but I don't think so. On our return trip, we passed through Nagoya station and ate in one of the famous unagi places in Nagoya called Maruya Honten. We preferred the unagi from Unasho, it was cleaner and prepared better because you felt the fishbones less in your mouth when you chewed.
The hot pudding from Yuamiya was TO DIE FOR. We came back twice to the shop during our trip so that we could eat it again and again.

If you love pudding, onsen or frogs, Gero is definitely the place to stay! The hot Hida milk pudding is absolutely delicious. There is a cute little frog shrine and lots of frog related souvenirs, cookies and street decor. There are public foot baths, great hot sprins and enough places to get a decent snack.
I can highly recommend La Vita e Bella. This is an italian place in Gero. The staff were absolutely adorable. They spoke English really well and they actually had a proper English menu.

Gero is located in the Center of the Gifu Region. Small and very beautiful place, with unforgettable landscapes. The hot springs are scattered throughout the city and you can use them all the time. It is possible to walk the entire city on foot. Plenty of restaurants and shopping options.

In Gero itself there are just a few sights to go to. However you can easily stay there to discover Takayama or other close sights. Also there are every hot springs were you can either dip in your feet, hands or just jump in with whole body.
A really charming location, it is 10 stories but never feels overwhelming. Lovely view and garden. Efficient station shuttle. As someone else said, it could be from a Wes Anderson movie or a novel. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast are top notch. Onsen facilities are slightly past their prime but do the job, the open air baths are really special. Room in the annex was huge and had a great private bath. I asked the hotel to recommend a nice hike and they suggested one. Reception was really helpful after I sprained my ankle.
Room was average.
Dinner and breakfast were Kaiseki style, served in our room by a male Japanese speaking staff who took the trouble to Google translate all the different dishes to English. He was very polite.
Driver who drove us to the train station on the day of check out was extremely accommodating n helpful.
The ladies' public onsen .. The Rose Bath was quite nice but with very few flowers. Different from the photo in the hotel website with lots of flowers.
In 2019, my son and I spent time in Kyoto. This year we decided to do a multicentre trip (Tokyo, Nagoya, Gero, Osaka) with the Suihoen, Gero Onsen in the middle for 4 days. I think Gero may be the best and most beautiful place I have ever stayed and Suihoen and the staff were a big part of that.
Outside onsen on the roof is fantastic with unspoilt views of the mountains. Staff excellent. Food excellent. Fantastic place to recharge from the stresses of life.
This onsen hotel has been in business for a long time and their reputation is well-known. Walking through the hotel and in the room you will noticed dated carpets and furniture however it did not have any impact to our stay. The room was clean and the staff is attentive. The check in/out process was smooth, the meals were delicious and plentiful and the onsen is just absolutely wonderful. Very good value location to stay in.
-great hospitality, able to communicate in Eng or using gg translate.
When we were leaving, they even came outside to say goodbye ,also standing and waving until our car gone.
- This hotel has to carry suitcase up one floor, but they helped to carry all the way in and out.
- Big private dinner and BF room for each family.
-River view from the room.
-Coin laundry nearby outside the hotel.
-Quiet area at night.
The location of the hotel is perfect in this little town. The Onsen area are very clean and perfect to relax after the day.
But the best part here were the food! We wrote the hotel just one day before we arrive if it's possible to create vegetarian meals for us. And they did a perfect job! We got the best meals we had in whole Japan and this also super spontaneously. Thanks to the whole team!
The guesthouse is occupied by an elderly couple. Even if the communication was a bit difficult (They speak little english and I speak little japanese) they were always very kind and helpful. A free little breakfast was included every morning, and they washed and dried my clothes for me free of charge.
All in all a very warm and welcoming service.
Large room. Not so expensive as compared to other surrounding hotels. About five-minute drive to Gero Centre where you can find a few 24 hours convenient stores. With free parking, it's a very convenient place when you've got a car.
Breakfast was delicious, as was the dinners. The hotel was able to accommodate us as primarily English speakers than almost any other hotel or inn in Japan. The staff was excellent in every way!
loved this hotel. room was so lovely. the interior of hotel is so well designed and lovely. calming place to walk into. close to everything in town centrally located. Comfy futon style beds
Very friendly host. Rooms are not fancy but comfortable enough with everything you need. Onsen is one of the best I’ve experienced. Also love the miso soup in the breakfast, very tasty.
Facilities are a bit old , one of the front desk’s staff was rude( I asked for new towels for Onsen, he pointed at the towels held in my hands and asked me to use the old ones ) .
This hotel is an excellent place to relax with its onsen faciltiies. Room given was excellent too with a nice view of the garden. Staff were super friendly and helpful too
