A very strong, freezing wind was blowing, unfortunately, during my stay, which hampered my exploration of the Greymouth area. The library was well set up for Wifi and warmth. I was unable to find a cafe/restaurant with good food. Coffee was good. The iSite staff were friendly, and were able to answer all of my questions. I arrived on the TranzAlpine train, this journey was well worth while.

Global Village Travelers hostel was the most attractive of the six I stayed in during my visit to the West Coast. It was clean, well decorated, and welcoming. Each bed of my female only dorm room had its own electrical outlet and light. The kitchen was clean and well stocked with cookware. Lots of books and pamphlets in the common rooms about the surrounding area. I recommend it highly for solo female travelers!

Very good stopping pony to visit pancake rocks and the blow holes. We walked to the coal creek falls which was lovely. We drove to Franz Josef, Fox Glacier and Hokitika. Greymouth was okay but there is absolutely nothing to do when it’s raining. Its only a small town.. the big pils is it has no traffic lights!

We enjoyed eating at the Speights Ale House and having coffee at the Robert Harris Coffee lounge. Our stay at the Sundowner Motel was clean and spacious. Our hosts were helpful and this made our stay enjoyable. The information boards around the town were interesting to read as we walked around but once we had accomplished this there was not a lot else to do. We would have liked to hire a car and explore further a field but no one would allow us to hire a car for a day.

Greymouth itself is not very attractive but the coastal drive north to Punakaiki offers fantastic scenery, and Hokitika Gorge to the south will not disappoint. There’s a small restaurant in Greymouth called Sevenpenny which was very good, far better than the overpriced restaurant in our hotel.
From the moment we arrived it was apparent that this is what we had been looking for on our three month vacation.
A beautiful setting up in the mountains with only the sound of the cicadas to break the tranquility.
The property was exceptionally clean and nicely furnished.
The hosts, Andrew and Jolene, offer a BBQ dinner at their outdoor, covered kitchen. A simple but delicious dinner. It was accompanied with lots of interesting conversation, our hosts providing us with a good insight to New Zealand.
We had a lovely stay, there was everything we needed, loved the animals and being able to walk around and pet them and feed them. We felt very much at home. We loved the welcome letter and treats, fresh bread still hot out of the bread maker for breakfast with boiled eggs was a real treat.for dinner it was a 2 min walk to local Hotel for dinner which was perfect after a day of driving. Toby the dog was so lovely and gentle , he loves his ball as much as people to throw it for him.
Big roomy units , Kitchenettes, good showers , excellent location , serviced every day , good onsite parking, laundry, free Wi Fi - great motels. We've stayed here before and will do so again one day. Very close( as in 5 min walk) to Supermarket, Cafe, Service Station, Dominoes Pizza, Hospital, Barber & Bakery. Not far from town & some really good restaurants. Its a great place to base your holiday on the Coast from.
The large one-bedroom apartment is very comfortable, well appointed, and very quiet. The location is just a few minutes from the Greymouth train station, so very convenient if you're taking the Tranzalpine Express. Pancake Rocks is also a short drive away. The host is friendly and helpful, and Chico the Golden Retriever provides a cheerful greeting when you arrive, and will play with you as long as you want.
Our last hostel of six weeks around New Zealand turned out to be the best. This hostel is located in such a beautiful and historic building, extremely clean, safe and quiet. Staff were so welcoming and we had a wonderful night’s sleep in the Elephant Room downstairs. The shared spaces are large, bright and comfortable also. Thank you for a lovely stay.
We stayed in the basic cabins witch were pefect for us the shared facilities were excellent abd the shared bathrooms were individual rooms and very modern and nicer than some motels. The kids enjoyed the playground and the evening walks along the beach i can't speak highly enough of the campground
The unit was clean, spacious with a nice kitchen and new appliances (full stove) The bedrooms were neat clean and spacious. The owner, Carrol, was friendly, helpful and very knowledgable. Will stay at Alpine Rose Motel on own next visit to New Zealand. Highly recommended.
The Sundowner is my "go to" first choice in Greymouth. It's a "CCC" property ... comfortable, clean & convenient and the owners Abby & TJ are very helpful. Sometimes simple is just better than elegant, so unless they have no vacancy that's where I like to stay ...
There was an outstanding view over the ocean from the unit. It was modern, complete, spacious, comfortable beds, chairs, outdoor furniture. It opened to a small deck and a grassy area. Great sunrise. Convenient to Greymouth. Friendly host. We really liked our stay.
"Paroa Hotel" is what you see when you open up the manual on Hospitality. From the checkin to check out it was perfect. Thank you
Meals were very nice, well prepared and presented. (Beer was cold...)
Al was very friendly and helpful. This even extended to a tour of the town and a ride to our bus in the early morning. The breakfast served was excellent. It was a high point of our visit to Greymouth.
