It was the strangest breakfast I have ever had at a hotel. It wasn’t bad just a very weird combination of non breakfast type food. No hot items either.
On Princes Street, opposite the Scott Monument and National Gallery, Mercure Edinburgh City - Princes Street Hotel has an excellent location, a friendly atmosphere and views of Edinburgh Castle.

The location is wonderful
The breakfast caused physical discomfort for both of us, in retrospect (later in the day).
Overlooking Carlton Hill, Princes Street Gardens and Waverley Station, the 4-star Scotsman Hotel was originally built in 1905. This majestic, listed building was once The Scotsman newspaper.

This hotel is CONVENIENTLY located right outside of the train station. Like, literally across the street from the exit. It couldn't be more perfect. You'd think with it being so close, it would be noisy but far from it, it's very quiet. The room was stunning and we had a bottle of champagne and chocolates waiting when we arrived in the room.
We ate dinner downstairs in the restaurant and Callum, our waiter, was delightful and friendly. Lovely guy.
We stayed two nights and had a sit down breakfast for one morning. The next day we had an all day tour of the highlands and Loch Ness so didn't have time to sit down and eat a breakfast but they did pack up fruit and snacks for us to grab on the way to our trip pickup point.
Excellent hotel and not far from the castle or the Royal Mile shops and restaurants.
In the heart of historic Edinburgh, ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile is situated just off the historic Royal Mile. The stylish hotel has a lively bar and spacious rooms with internet access.
