They treated us like family and even took us on tour around the area and to the beach. They don't have a lot but offered us everything. Marta even washed our riding gear and coffee and food were constantly given to us. This is not a 5-star hotel but the experience was 10-star. It was tough to say goodbye the following day as it truly felt like we were leaving family. We took them out for supper and had a fabulous time. If you want to experience the true way of life staying with Max and Martha is a fantastic eye-opener and a wonderful experience you won't find anywhere else.

Location was great, close to the main part of town (3-4 min walk) but not right in the hustle and bustle. Air conditioning in the rooms was great and a must, it is super hot in SJDS.

Information booklet in the room was helpful. Help to rent mopeds, organise transport, guides etc. The room was spacious, bed was really comfortable, hardly any creepy crawlies (this is a complaint from many of the eco lodges). Good wifi. 2 fans which was nice. Good shower pressure and temperature.

A continental breakfast is served each morning at the property. We had the nicest stay of our 1 month trip to Nicaragua in Casa de Gio. We loved our air conditioned room and the great breakfast, but most of all it was the exceptional family who ran this great hostel that made all the difference. Couldn't recommend it more for groups, couples, or solo travellers.

The communal kitchen is well-appointed. The wifi coverage is excellent. Poppy the dog and Blimp the cat are adorable ambassadors. Louis, Nick, and the team are friendly and extremely responsive. This is a special place to return to after a day of adventure in San Juan. It is also an incredible value.
