There's no point in getting to the canyon, whatever the...
There's no point in getting to the canyon, whatever the guide books (e.g. Rough Guide) say, before 0800 and that to bag a viewing place. The birds don't fly till there are thermals, on our day this was after 0830. Go down to the lower terraces for the best views. Pre-booked taxis in Chivay can be unreliable - ours didn't turned up an hour late, the driver drunk, but we had got another one by then.

The staff was extremely kind and accomodating. Also we had to leave early, before official breakfast time, and still they served an amazing breakfast. The staff were very helpful when we arrived and my wife was ill with stomach trouble and altitude sickness. The bed was very comfortable and she spent a good night recovering. There was hot water in the shower in the morning and they served an adequate breakfast very early.

The absolute best part though was Lizbeth, who greeted us on reception, went out of her way to help us arrange a private taxi tour to see the condors at Colca Canyon, made us an early breakfast before we left and stored our bags for us while we were gone! She was brilliant and is a credit to the hotel.

The whole staff is very professional and helpful. You will find someone speaking English in case your Spanish is struggling. Rooms are clean with new furniture and beds are very comfortable .Some rooms have a balcony to enjoy the mountains. And you can access the rooftop to get a view on the whole city. It's definitely the perfect stop for everyone coming from or going to the Colca Canyon.NarmesFrance
