Located at Kilifi Creek, just 3 km outside of town and surrounded by a community forest, Distant Relatives Ecolodge and Backpackers features a secluded beach area, a restaurant and outdoor pool.

The lodge offers different accommodation types, ranging from family and double rooms to beds in a dormitory or safari tents. The spacious rooms feature custom made furniture and shelving. The waterproof tents feature a bed-side table and solar lights.

Out of everywhere in the world, this was my favorite hostel ever! Meant to stay 4 nights and stayed 2 weeks and didn’t want to leave. The property is HUGE and so beautiful. They were constantly cleaning and all the facilities were well maintained. The staff, especially Beth, Brian and George were incredible. There’s hostel pets we fell in love with as well. Can cook there too! Just beware monkeys will enter the dorm rooms constantly! So don’t bring food in there. Couldn’t recommend enough.

great spot with good facilities. huge compound with a short walk to the creek. Food was average and drinks were a little overpriced for a backpackers lodge but overall satisfied.

It is truly an eco-lodge that practices what it preaches, including permaculture, composting toilets, grey water systems, and more. The huts are cleverly spaced to provide privacy throughout the thick bamboo and indigenous plant forest. The outdoor bathroom was expansive and beautiful. The creekside beach is lovely and great for swimming. The green papaya salad was divine—the best in Africa!

This is an excellent getaway lodge. Unfortunately I booked my stay at the beginning of the raining season therefore very minimal out activities. I participated in mangrove planting in rain. I enjoyed the activity and the spirit of conservation.

I loved the location close to the lovely white sand beach and the Indian Ocean. Also, I liked the idea of building the guest houses in the traditional style - rounded, using natural materials like clay and wood. Each house has a small terrace, i can imagine resting there and falling asleep while listening to the sound of ocean waves. The houses are surrounded by a beautiful tropical garden. And yes, there are many wonderful baobab trees around. Should i have not travelled for work, I would definitely enjoy lovely vacations days in this lodge.
