This was probably the most unique location that I've ever stayed at. It's in the middle of an active volcano! We spent one day exploring the area with one of the hotel's guides. We spent our second day just relaxing and taking in the scenery. They were both great ways to enjoy the volcano. We also loved that we could see so many stars each night.
Hotel in São Filipe
Facing the beachfront, Hotel Savana offers 3-star accommodation in São Filipe and features an outdoor swimming pool, garden and terrace. We really loved our stay at Hotel Savana! It’s in a great location, we had an amazing view of the whole city from our room which was very spacious with comfortable bed and nice bathroom. The staff was extremely helpful with everything, they gave us all important information, we had our dirty laundry washed, breakfast was good, and we would definitely come and stay here again!
Hotel in Cova Figueira
Edificio Cosec Hotel features an outdoor swimming pool, shared lounge, a restaurant and bar in Cova Figueira. The staff especially the owner Toni were so helpful in arranging transfers and organising our stay. The room was very nice and the swimming pool was great. The evening we stayed there coincided with an amazing event celebrating Women of Cape Verde with a banquet, disco and excellent live musicians. Toni helped us plan our walking tour to Alcatraz and Faja which was excellent. The hotel's location is good if you are planning hikes in the area (which is cooler than most of the island) such as around Estancia Roque and along the coast. The paths are well marked. Finally Toni made sure we got back to Sao Filipe ok when the normal aluguers werent't running as it was a holiday. I wish them all the lu ck in the world in making the hotel a success.

Located in São Filipe, 500 metres from Sao Filipe Beach, Hotel Santos Pina provides accommodation with a garden, free private parking, a shared lounge and a restaurant. Our room had a balcony and a view of the ocean. We watched the sun set over the Atlantic Ocean each of our three night stay. I was pleasantly surprised the room was equipped with 110v and 220v electricity outlets. The breakfast in the morning was a great selection of fresh cut fruits, homemade breads, cold cereal, eggs made-to-order, sliced cheeses, and fresh local breakfast drinks. The restaurant was open every hour we needed it to be. It was overall, I very pleasant hotel experience.

São FIlipe is worth a leisurely walk, to know all its old town streets (Bila Baxu). Make sure to ask where Dona Maria Augusta sells her delightful cookies (baked on a wooden oven). You will also find fabulous restaurants with very friendly staff. Make sure to walk on the beach (the ocean has strong waves, so one should not dive or swim) to feel the very soft black sand on your feet (about 6km of desert beach). A tour around the island of Fogo is also a must... make sure your driver takes you to the village of Pai António to get an overwhelming view of the tropical fruit trees and vegetables which are grown there, making the deep green contrast with the barren southern part of the island.
Sao Filipe is the perfect start/end point for your adventure on Fogo. Go to the caldeiras and do the hikes to the picos. You will remember them a lifetime. Sao Filipe is food to rest from your trips and enjoy the Fogo lifestyle.
Magnificent island featuring a volcano. It curiously has micro-weathers all around from sunny-dry one Sao Felipe to cloudy-rainy Moisteros. Visit also Salina at Sao Jorge, a cool beach with natural pools wait for you. Excellent for snorkeling. There is another beach just hill down of Sao Felipe, an extensive dark-sand beach. It looks amazing but I was personally afraid to swim there. Cafe do Fogo is a co-op at Mosteiros which offers guide visits on request. You have to call in advance and best season is during spring (March to May) Pico de Fogo is the most important thing in the island. It was easy to climb even for beginners as us. There are a lot of places to eat and drink. After almost 2 weeks of a variety of fishy dishes, I found Adriano Pizza a delicious option for pizza (of course) and ice cream. IMPORTANT tips: - Hire a guide to climb the volcano, it's easy to lose yourself as old footprints/paths disappears quickly and capricious ones seems that could guide you. Don't be chip. - Please bring enough water with you (2L pp) and some snack or grain bars. It´s a log shot, but worthy. - It's really important to start climbing by 5-6am to return by lunch time and avoid the hardest sun. I wasn't warn about that and a woman sold me a tour were I was picked up at 8am and start by 10pm. - Bring also comfortable sneakers and be prepared to fill them with sand when made the descent. - Always agree a fare before jump in a taxi cab. Ask locals for average fares. There is also public transportation (aka colectivos) but they are only one-way, by the time we were there. - Expeditions/excursions are so "fracking" overpriced. So, it's worth to ask and compare prices before book any. Also, one can hire a taxi and a guide separately, but it's up to one. - Personally I felt locals taxi cabs more crafty to overprice their trips.
Nice restaurants, great black sandy beach and a lot of friendly people . While in Fogo Island reserve a day or two to head to Cha das Caldeiras and climb to the peak of the Volcano. It's amazing up there.
Unique hotel complex in the crater of Fogo volcano. Amazing hospitality and support from the hotel staff and owners. Mustapha is a very interesting person, committed to continuously improve the quality of the premises, services and community on the island. Warm welcome and pick up, delicious food, warm homey atmosphere and an excellent hike to Fogo volcano - just some of the things that made the stay memorable and very special. Thank you! Дзякуй!
Portela
You're on one of the more remote islands of Cape Verde, far away from the main village, Sao Felipe, inside a Caldeira on a former lava flow looking at Pico do Fogo. What Cisa and Rose have built in this environment is just mind blowing. They make you feel at home at an extraordinary place. Delicious food, wonderful mountain guide, all contributes to an unforgettable holiday!
The amazing , professional and friendly staff named Leonice , from the moment she started her shift she was informed about what was going on and she did everything she could to accommodate and make us comfortable and happy , my daughter absolutely adores her I can say she is the only reason why I would go back to hotel Mira mar fogo brava .
Hotel Manager was very helpful in organizing the Pico do Fogo hike Tour on request. Very clean hotel.
