Hótel Vellir is a 3-star property situated on the outskirts of the capital city and only 36 km from the airport. A very functional hotel for those who need parking on the way from one place to another (what we were needed). Nearby Reykjavik, but real close to the beginning of the golden ring. Not so much light, so I think Auroras could be easily seen (though I didn´t have the chance) Good breakfast included. This Viking-themed hotel is located at the harbour in the seaside town of Hafnarfjordur. Humpback whales can sometimes be spotted in the harbour during winter. The Viking Hotel is one of the best places to stay near Reykjavik if you want a decent price and an amazing hotel stay. The whole atmosphere of the hotel is made in the style of the Viking era, very original and wonderful, felt like being back in time! The check-in was effortless and the staff at the reception were just amazing, super helpful, and always ready to answer any questions we would have. We enjoyed our breakfast, which was super tasty and with a great deal of variety of foods, both international and local. The hotel also had a hot tub and sauna, which I had the chance to use once during our weekend there. Also, there is free parking next door, super practical and needed when traveling with a car! The town was amazing too, and the proximity to Reykjavik was equally amazing! All in all, it was a great stay and we recommend this hotel to anyone exploring the area around Reykjavik and the Golden Circle!

Amazing views, comfort, supplied local food, the heated floors and towel rack are the only heat source and we were never cold inside this lovely cabin! Oh and the just installed barrel sauna with a window overlooking the lake and mountains! The horses across the road that would stare at us as we walked to our car in the morning, and make the best horse noices!
