Hotel Palazzo Alexander is a historic building in the centre of Lucca, with easy access from Porta San Donato. Rooms come with free Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and the staff is multilingual. What’s not to like about an elegant small hotel such as this in the heart of Lucca. On check in we got a great briefing of what to do in town and took the manager’s advice and attended the Puccini and Verde opera in a 1600 era cathedral. A high point. We also walked along the medieval walls of the town. The hotel was great. Breakfast was yummy, with pancakes and eggs and all of the continental goodies. We did book one room for each of us. Two tall people in these small European rooms wears thin on long trips (snoring included). So that made this stay pricey for us.

This warm and friendly hotel is within the ancient walls of Lucca, a 10-minute walk from the cathedral. Highlights at Hotel Alla Corte degli Angeli include free Wi-Fi and elegantly decorated rooms. Perhaps the best thing in this beautiful, atmospheric hotel was the parking lot just across the street - something extremely valuable for travelles with car and luggage in Lucca! And the breakfast was superb, also.

Just 200 metres from Lucca Train Station and a 5-minute walk from the city walls, Albergo Moderno offers air-conditioned rooms with LCD TV. Really beautiful and quiet location. The breakfast was also nice and the family that runs the hotel was also kind. The owner/manager was very kind to help me with my luggage up the stairs, but it is definitely easier here with light luggage :) If you are coming by train, make sure to ask about reaching the property by the back exit of train station to avoid taking large stairs to cross the town.
