Yamanouchi
Hotel staff service was superb. We requested pickup at Yudanaka station due to large group and the hotel staff replied promptly and showed up on time. Only A few of them could speak good english. They were also very attentive and meticulous in explaining the use of slippers, hot bath facilities nearby. Shibu onsen is within walking distance but restaurants were limited and many not open for dinner during our stay on dec 8. On departure day, hotel staff also patiently showed us bus timetable and bus stop location to go to shiga kogen.
Yamanouchi
Amazing staff with genuine kindness and hospitality, great traditional Japanese style room. Japanese style Dinner and Breakfast are prepared and served with such love and care and are delicious. The onsen are to die for and so relaxing and private. Really ideal location a quick bus ride from the Snow Monkeys and Shiga Kogen ski resort. It was an unforgettable stay for us and will definitely be going back!
Yamanouchi
Great value-for-money budget stay for people skiing or visiting the snow monkey park. The owner is super friendly and uses Google Translate to make sure the non-Japanese speaking guests have everything they need - gave us lifts each morning to the station for the bus up to Shiga Kogen. Breakfasts were delicious and highly recommended - kept us fuelled for a morning on the slopes!
Yamanouchi
Traditional Japanese accommodations. Futons were clean and comfortable and the breakfast was healthy and nutritious. Conveniently located near onsen villages, Snow Monkey park and Shiga Kogen ski resort. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Loved the on-site onsen which had an indoor and outdoor area. super relaxing after a long day of exploring!
Yamanouchi
Good location. Although not central to all the Shiga Kogen ski areas, it was easy to get around using the ski lifts and was very convenient to the Yamanoeki bus station. Our host was very helpful and the meals were authentic Japanese fare.
Rooms were warm and comfortable but bathroom area very dated. The location is great, next to the ski lifts and very practical. The ski conditions are amazing so please come Shiga Kogen to ski.

My favourite place I stayed in Japan. Great location, incredible staff, spacious room, and very reasonable price. Will stay here again when I go to Yudanaka/Shiga Kogen.
It was a super authentic Ryukan experience, the host was super friendly and courteous. We recommend booking the authentic breakfast and diner for full experience. If you travel as a couple there is even a private onsen you can use together. Everything was super Clean. 100% recommendation
I loved the amazing staff and amenities. The private onsen in the suite was amazing and the view with that on the balcony was beautiful. The staff were able to accommodate with an English speaking staff member. The owner of the hotel was also amazing! The hospitality was wonderful. They made sure we had a way to the train station. The Japanese style breakfast and dinner included with our stay were the best food me and my husband both have ever had in our two year stay in Japan. They even give you traditional wear to wear throughout the hotel to make the experience immersive!
A wonderful stay. Chose this hotel due to having transportation between Yudanaka train station and the Snow Monkey Park. Very handy indeed! There are two public onsen within the facility (gender separated) and two private onsen (indoor, free and outdoor, 2000yen per 30 mins, or free with select rooms) in addition to the 9x onsen in town. In-room drinks provided (free) and replenished daily with local snacks provided in-room and changed daily also. A nice touch! Tip - choose a consecutive night stay (2 nights) and you’ll have the town onsen to yourself until 3pm when the guests start to check into their hotels. Most only stay 1 night so the town onsen can get quite busy from 3pm. We chose the “no meals” options in our booking and were spoiled for choice within Shibu Onsen (places open from 5.30-6pm), no reservations necessary which isn’t the case for most other towns in Japan!
Amazing staff, accomodation, dinners, was in Japan for a month and this was my favourite accommodation Couldn't recommend more, from Travis from Australia
The outdoor onsen was very good, and you could book a private slot which is especially great if you are shy! The staff were very patient and kind, and they look after you very well. I highly recommend booking a dinner, and the breakfast is also very good. Being close to the station was also particularly helpful when starting my day, especially as it was a pickup point for my snow monkey tour.
Naoko, Kiku, and the entire hotel staff went above and beyond, making our stay delightful and memorable with their exceptional assistance and warmth.
I never experienced such VIP service otherwise in the world. Whole reception teams demonstrated what extraordinary service should be. I arrived late by bus and was welcomed by one receptionist in bus stop. so I did not need to carry my luggage in the snowing road. They even opened the ski rental shop for me after working hour. The next morning, I missed public shuttle bus and they offered to use hotel shuttle bus to drive me over to ski lift in Yakebitaiyama without reservation in advance. I felt that I was living with a lot of friends instead of living in hotel. I was too tired to try the bar at night, and I would like to try it next time. Swimming pool was good with quite warm water. Hot bathing place with best view. Sun rising over snow mountain top. Breakfast was very good with many variations. The dinner I ordered was pork hotpot, and personally I think the starter tasted better and pork meat is okay. I will try something else next time. All in all, the service and room condition are all top.
The room was much bigger than I anticipated, and in a Japanese style (with tatami) so I was pleasantly surprised. The onsen in the hotel was an absolute delight. It had several baths with different temperatures, a lounge space, a sauna, a cold bath (which can be rare), and of course everything needed to wash yourself thoroughly before going into the baths. The hotel also provides body towels as well as face towels, so you don't need to bring yours. They have lockers to keep your items safe while bathing. There's free breakfast (little pieces of bread + some juice and coffee/tea) and a space on the first floor to relax after the onsen for example. It has wifi there as well.
I loved the place, it has its rustic theme which is typical of an old ryokan/hotel in Japan. Very helpful staff
