Tulbagh was one of the prettiest towns I have seen in the Western Cape and we were blown away by the surrounding scenery. Good restaurants and we so enjoyed the museums in the town. They were staffed by friendly and knowledgeable people who shared interesting information with us to really enhance the experience.
One of the most beautiful towns in the Western Cape. Scenic and clean. Has maintained its historical beauty whilst still advancing commercially. Views of the bay from Marine Drive are exquisite
The setting is spectacular, framed by mountains and abundant nature. It's full of the most beautiful homes and farmsteads. It feels like you've stepped back into a time that was simpler, more caring and more peaceful. The people epitomise the best of South African hospitality. And the food was fantastic. It rates as one of our top small towns in the western Cape. Notable places - we stayed at Kogman and Keisies - it's a must stay at place. We ate at the Rambling Rose, Die Stal and The Barn - all exceptional.
Prince Albert is a charming village which succeeded in preserving its historical buildings. The roses and bougainvilleas during this time of the year are breath taking. The annual Agricultural Show was supported by the Western Cape Department of Agriculture and with their presence exposed learners from schools as far as Laingsburg to employment possibilities in the agricultural sector. The highlight was the energetic local Riel Dance Group of Prince Albert and their red "vellies".
As in most places in the western cape of South Africa, weekend getaways must be planned In advance so you get reasonable prices and manage to eat at the restaurants you want to. Last minute travellers must content themselves with hostels and with the mass Restaurants that take walk-ins.
Centrally situated with easy access to other tourist attractions in the Western Cape as well as to a wide variety of wine farms and restaurants. A quiet, yet vibrant, place without the craziness of the up-country visitors crowding the roads and beaches. Relative safety of being able to walk the streets at night in comparison to other cities in South Africa.
I had booked all of my tours prior to my arrival, including cage diving with sharks, wine country, Cape Point, Robben Island, safari, Table Mountain, and walking tours of the city centre. Despite being a solo female traveler, the people of the Western Cape are what made this trip so special. They informed me of areas where it was safe to go and how to get around. Many people used Uber. Mama Africa is a popular restaurant, for which I was able to book reservations on my last night in Cape Town. I plan on returning but with another person, as the magic of South Africa is something worth sharing.
Out of season it is a beautiful, quiet location. Very good location to base yourself for a visit to the Western Cape.
Quaint old Cape-Dutch town with lovely architecture in the center of the beautiful winelands of the Western Cape. Take a stroll through the old neighborhoods and enjoy the beauty of the trees, gardens and old houses.
I have been to a few places in the world. Nothing really compares to the beautiful South African Western Cape province. Where East meets West. You see it in the people, you taste it in the food and you experience it in the culture. With some of the best food and wines in som many restaurants and small businesses, that are too many to name.
Swellendam
One of the best places we stayed through our journey to western cape. Apartmant was spacious and very nice. There were only 3 apartments so it was very relaxed and secluded atmosphere. Pool area was fantastic and we relaxed there most of our time. There was beautiful mountain wiev from the pool area. The host was super nice and helpful. It is a fantastic place to charge the batteries when travelling through garden route. I totally recommend to stay there 2 nights because it is so nice to chill at the pool area.
The staff at the Cocktail Bar, were exceptional, Micaylah was a great source of info and her knowledge was greatly appreciated. The rest of the staff were also very, very helpful and their friendliness was heart-warming. I loved the view from our room and it was spacious and impeccable. The parking was great and gated as well. Of the 6 Hotels we stayed at all over the Western Cape, this was one of the best if not THE BEST...Thanks for an Awesome end to our Month long stay in South Africa.
Third year in a row we've been to Spier, imo it's the best family hotel in the western cape. Staff are numerous and go out of their way to ensure you're having a great stay. It has 2 restaurants that serve top quality food and has a farm shop for picnics and a braai and bubbles stall for burgers on the weekend. Loads to explore for adults and kids alike. My little boy couldn't get enough of the golf carts that ferry you around the estate (which is large).
Franschhoek
Val d’Or estate is situated among vineyards 7 km outside Franschhoek and 600m from the main road, so it is very quiet. It has a beautiful garden with many birds that will excite bird-watchers. Wifi works well and breakfast is the standard Western Cape hotel breakfast: bland coffee, eggs, bread with toppings, mixed fruit bowl, 2 kinds of yoghurt and 3 kinds of cereal. Free water bottles are provided every day. Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Robertson
Everything was perfect! The cottage has everything you need and more to feel at home. All the bedding and cutlery is hotel quality, the views are immaculate, there are two braais, a small swimming pool at the cottage and so so much more! We were blown away and wish that we could have stayed a few more nights. Our family will definitely be staying here again when we are in the Western Cape again. We cannot recommend enough!
Melkbosstrand
we made a three week trip through the western cape and changed hotels quite frequently. although we have loved all hotels so far, this one was the first that felt like home and was hard to leave. The staff will go the extra mile just to accommodate you. also, we had the entire house to ourselves for almost all of our five night stay. So it felt like we got more than just our luxurious bedroom to ourselves.
Greyton
Via's rooms are situated in a garden behind Via's restaurant. There are garden tables and chairs were one could sit and read read or have coffee, tea, wine etc.. All the rooms are comfortable and large. At night the atmoshere was quiet and I had a peaceful sleep, There was quite a large selection on the menu. I regularly stay in hotels and guesthouses in the Western Cape. I recommend Via's.
Struisbaai
This is an extremely tasteful apartment with much attention to detail obvious. It is well catered for the loadshedding problem which is very useful. We found it extremely comfortable and well equipped. This is a unique part of the Western Cape, extremely safe and with surprisingly more facilities than we expected. The scenic beauty is stunning and the area and people are very friendly and helpful.
George
The apartment is clean and everything you need for a overnight stay is provided. Tbe bed is of high quality and assure a comfortable sleep. Safe parking is provided and the hosts are friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. The location is perfect when you have business in George or need a safe place to stay away from home in this lovely Western Cape town.
Swellendam
this really was a gem we found on our Western Cape adventure. Knowledgable staff, great hot tub overlooking the Impala and Zebra we didn't go in the pool but it looked lovely. Very nice breakfast too. Not at the hotel but make sure you visit the the museum in town, its fascinating!
The room was so clean and the entire hotel is spacious and welcoming. The pool was a treat during one of the hottest weekends in the Western Cape. The dinner was delicious. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and went out of their way to assist us. I was so impressed and grateful.
Noordhoek
Monkey Valley is great value for money, in the relatively secluded Noordhoek are in the Western Cape. The views are magnificent, the rooms adequate and comfortable and most importantly clean. The food was great but as we were there for a wedding, cannot relate to normal guests.
Wilderness
Location is central and convenient. Exceptional views from our room. Room felt like boutique hotel. Booking was easy. Will become our go to stay-over guest house for weekend break away or if we need to stay overnight on route to other destination eg Western Cape.
Worcester
Best price/value hotel in the western cape.. good vibes/ at home feeling.. one of the most comfy places ever :) Shout out to our AWESOME waitress Portia! actually deciding on staying here a bit longer :)
Everything, location, staff, food, service even the weather 😂 i love it too much 🤍🤍
Stunning location, friendly staff.
High end resort w the ability to go on amazing game drives. Such a unique experience.
Imagine after staying here you can say you actually stayed inside a cave. You have all the amenities of a hotel. A restaurant onsite with many adventure tour options available. My stay here was unforgettable!
The staff were exceptional. Unfortunately we were very sick when we were there, "they were very concerned about us. Drove us to a doctor & the next day drove us to the hospital. They went above & beyond in their care of us. A special thanks to Kenneth & Godfrey!
