The staff were so kind and helpful. The food was delicious (we liked the curry best) and very reasonably priced. We also signed up for a one day tour with them and we had a great day with 5 orangutan sightings led by our guides Jojo and Aldi. One evening some local guys came by to hang out and play some music. It was great singing along and getting to know the people of Bukit Lawang! It was also great that this didn’t go on late into the night and we still went to bed at a very reasonable time.

Not at Palambak. incredible place, incredible staff.

It is low key, calm, away from mass tourism- it can be a bit of a mission to get there according to weather conditions but totally worth it . Owners Ira and Vicky are lovely people as is their staff of 3 who do an excellent job in a low key friendly way. Bit of a cliche to say they feel like family but after 7 days stay there it is true. I have travelled a lot and it is rare to find a place like this. It is not “flash” and don’t expect all the bells and whistles but if you want a quiet stay with swimming, reading ( and games avaible ) excellent internet and 4G as a bonus then this is the place for you.

The home-cooked breakfast every morning was excellent. Fresh food well-prepared. The owner, Ibu Saliza, remembered which foods I especially liked and made sure to serve them again and saved me some! She is also a great source of information and help. Saliza knows the flights and transport that Google doesn't and she will book them for you. Ask her anything about travel, local history, food, anything. She is a great person to chat with. The location was perfect. Nice and quiet all day and all evening. Good aircon for comfortable sleep at night, or sit out on the dock in the evening and enjoy the water and the stars. The snorkeling right off the dock was great--better than when I booked a seat on a dive boat. I initially booked three nights but extended to six, and wish I could have stayed longer!
