While there is a lovely forest behind the chateau , there is also a fairly unattractive suburban industrial estate and roads below it. Weather was bad during our stay (not hotel’s fault) and so we would have enjoyed a lounge or sitting area for guests to use in daytime. However other than a small very dark bar, there was none. Dinner was poor quality-not what we expected. In fairness when we complained we were not charged for one main course. As usual, poor bedside reading light. Staff were lovely but almost all seemed new and inexperienced. It felt as though the hotel had recently changed hands (?) and that this was a brand new team.

Beautiful building and grounds. Lovely pool and terrace. Beautiful room, spotlessly clean. Lovely dining room. Good wine at fair prices. Good breakfast. Very nice staff- but inexperienced.

The restaurant seems to be having some trouble with deciding exactly what it wants to serve - it has tried to do over-thought-out 'modern' dishes at high cost; this visit the menu was simpler, but still heavy-handed - I hope it will work out what it wants to be soon.

Candie is a regular stop for us en route to Italy, and it never disappoints. The rooms are period-decorated, very comfortable and with all your favourite extras - Nespresso machine, good toiletries and plenty of hangers (not usual in many French hotels!). The main chateau has the larger rooms. Set above the city of Chambery, the views are spectacular and it is very quiet. There is a lovely swimming pool and walks through the extensive grounds is a real pleasure after a long day in the car. All the staff are friendly and very helpful.

Spiders galore. I can't stress this enough. If you don't like bugs or spiders this place is not for you. Our room had more spiders and spider webs than I could possible express. Otherwise, the cleanliness of the room, bed, bathroom, etc was superb, but I couldn't help but be astounded by the amount of large spiders. I asked our friends in another room and they had the same experience. It mostly freaked me out because if there are spiders that large it means that something bigger than them is there to eat them......so anyways, fabulous stay, but not for those who have a big fear of bugs and spiders.

What a gorgeous hotel! Absolutely STUNNNING hotel, beautiful amenities, views, and general posture of the hotel. Complimentary breakfast which was a nice surprise. Our room was upgraded to a suite which was very lovely. Staff is friendly and speak English to help with anything you might need. I would absolutely recommend renting a car.

The shower was over the bath, which meant that my wife who has some mobility issues, couldn’t use it.

We stayed two nights and on both occasions ordered drinks around the pool in late afternoon - on both occasions they took over half an hour to arrive. The main restaurant was closed for refurbishment.

Set in beautiful surroundings. The ground floor room was well furnished and very comfortable. Excellent dinning room.

The service at dinner was exceptionally slow and we had to chase our food and drinks several times. There was no milk at breakfast as the delivery hadn’t turned up! We mentioned this at check out and the receptionist immediately rebated the cost of the bottle of wine we had at dinner the previous night.

Return visit to a very pleasant hotel which is a good stopping point on the way home from Italy

Breakfast buffet was great. Except you couldn't order fried eggs (which is very common in hotels these days).

The room ("Prestige") was great (roomy), verry silent despite located opposite the reception.

Swimming pool. Staff mostly friendly. Location / lots of space

Great location and property. Nice swimming pool. Room we stayed was average (Deluxe room) no view, very hot ( no air condition, fan provided ), quite dark. Property could do with a bit more care. Food is below expectations for a 4*, gastronomic experience that I’d advertised is lacking, limited menu, same for lunch/dinner, and subsequent days, bland with little flavor. Salad we ordered for lunch had lots of sand/grit.
