Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

United KingdomThe accommodation was directly under the flight path of Paris and, therefore, noisy. I had requested a ground floor room for mobility issues, but this was not accommodated, Room was up a flight of external steep concrete steps. Had kettle to make drink, but no tea/coffee, only sugar supplied. No wifi.
Room had been recently renovated to a relatively high standard. Character features in room. Room dressed to style and age of building. Room staged, had table chairs set for dinner but no facilities to cook or wash up. Looks pretty. Building looking tired and uncared for externally but room was comfy and facilities updated. New bathroom suite (although one tap poorly fitted).

NetherlandsIt was not very clean with spiders, webs and insects. Also, the bathroom has some humidity/mould issues. We would have liked to have a kettle Inthe room to prepare bottles for our baby.
The room is very spacious and the outside garden is beautiful. The breakfast was very nice.

The place was literally falling apart. The deck gave way and we broke through. The shower base had a massive crack in it. The kitchen utensils had mould growing on them and the toilet seat was next to the toilet. The BBQ was disgusting and the chairs were literally falling apart.

United StatesThe suite was very, very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was modern and really nice -- hot water and good pressure. It was in a historic building that had been converted. The owner was helpful and courteous. We wish we had more time to stay!

BelgiumFamily room was large and comfortable, though accessible with very dangerous and steep stairs for kids. Room itself renovated (more DIY level than professional), was not super clean, shower sewer did not function properly, shower head neither. Disappointing to find out the restaurant was closed after we booked and this was not clear when booking (non refundable) on booking.com. No service (drinks,…) available whatsoever - we got a phone nr from the person who gave us the keys upon arrival to call him when necessary, but “he had a lot of work to do and mow the lawn”… Terrace area dirty (full ashtrays, garbage bag on table, dirty tables,…) and the place seemed totally abandoned. We understand they are renovating and that the restaurant can be closed- but we are not Ok with keeping the hotel open and delivering no service just to get the money in. Overall, we really felt like we paid way to much for what we got - a basic room and no service. Which is a shame, as the location is perfect to return to when going on holidays.
