Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe have no complaints. Anything that may have been "less than perfect" is a result of staying in a very old building--old finicky key locks, creaky floors--but that was part of the charm of the place in my opinion. I would have been disappointed if that was all replaced with "modern" updates.
The proprietor was so kind when we arrived, and very welcoming. There was free parking on site, which is always a plus. You must pay in cash, but if you forget, there is an ATM (CNC Bank) about 5 minutes down the road. The breakfast was fantastic.

SpainThere weren't any curtains in the room, which made it a challenge to get the kids to sleep at their usual time (because summer). Our room was East-facing, so we woke up with the sun in our faces - very very early in the morning. Which made for cranky kids. Probably not a problem for adults, though. Just make sure you bring your sleeping mask.
Despite the heat wave, the rooms were lovely and cool - it's a really old monastery so the walls do the job of keeping things cool :) Beds were comfortable, the room very spacious.

NetherlandsReally small village so you need to plan ahead for dining options but you can drive a short ten minutes north for more options.
Beautiful scenic location where you can sleep with windows open and fall asleep to the sound of the river below the village. Super friendly and entertaining host.

AustraliaNothing at all.
We stayed for 4 nights and it was our base to visit the area. The Ermitage St Vincent is rustic, full of history and character, it was also very comfortable and breakfast was traditional and very good. Our room (Lafayette) had lovely views to the beautiful 12 c chuch next door and also over the Allier river. Jean, our host was also a highlight for us, he was so kind and generous and very funny. He seemed so genuinely pleased to see us each morning and we loved time spent in his company. Like the Ermitage, Jean is also full of character and charm. We thank him for helping to make our stay so memorable. The Ermitage is well positioned to visit the surrounding sights and villages and of course Brioude and its utterly beautiful basilica. Thank you Jean.

FranceWe stopped for an overnight stay on our road trip back home after staying on the south coast. The property was full of character and the rooms were quirky but beautiful, clean and comfortable. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the croissant I had for breakfast had to be the biggest I have ever had!!

SpainNothing really. All was to our taste. We have no complaints.
Super location in an 11th century hermitage in Vielle Brioude. Our room ( Lafayette) had a wonderful view of the river valley below. The place has an olde world charm and quirkiness that we loved but that might not suit lovers of Ikea style. The room was enormous, with giant, really comfy bed and real parquet flooring. Jean, the host, was totally great - helpful, informative, and quite the joker! Breakfast was ample - good and tasty

GermanyStaying at the Ermitage Saint Vincent definitely was one of the highlights of our vacation. The place is beautifully situated, next to a romanesque church, and overlooking the Allier river. And despite the building's venerable history, the rooms are very nice and comfortable. The breakfast was unbeatable (with an assortment of cheeses that would make some fancy restaurants look pale, and the best croissants we ever had). The host (Jean) is extremely friendly and helpful. Don’t miss having a meal at the “Hydropathes” restaurant in Vieille Brioude, which is at walking distance from the Ermitage, and which offers refined French cuisine and an excellent selection of wines.
