How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Nothing really. For those with less mobility the last set of stairs to the room in the loft were quite steep but had a handrail and our bath room wasn’t ensuite. This wasn’t very clear from description (or I missed it). It was still private to us though but we had to go down the stairs. The bathrobes in the room were therefore a great addition.
Claire the owner was very welcoming and couldn’t do enough extras for us to make our stay a comfortable one. This included allowing us to use her boiler room to hang our wet scuba diving kit to dry overnight and made us packed lunch as we left too early for breakfast. Would definitely come back to stay on our next trip to Swanage

The owners bent over backwards to help in any way possible and were very accommodating and hospitable throughout my stay. The room was spacious and very comfortable.

Claire was an absolute pleasure to meet ❤️ I absolutely loved the stay she's so fortunate to call home, even gave us a bottle of proseco for our wedding anniversary ❤️. Cannot thank her enough for our stay. Will definitely be going back 😀

In over 40 years of travelling, this was the most friendly welcome we have ever had! We arrived after walking nearly 20 miles, with our dinner in takeaway containers; Clare took us straight in to the dining room, provided plates and cutlery and poured us beer and wine. Her personality shines through the guest house, from the bold and stylish decor to the excellent breakfast. This latter is normally served in your room, but as we were with friends, she made us all welcome in the dining room - another lovely friendly touch. Good location, both for the South West coast path and for the station.

The only drawback was bathroom on different floor to bedroom. When I booked I assumed it would be next door. This was a minor hindrance ( middle of night loo visit) and it was a spacious room with a bath which was brilliant after long walk

We were a little surprised that we had to go downstairs to our private bathroom , if I knew we had been allocated that room I would have chosen an en-suite! Needing to get dressed when using the toilet in the night and after showering as had to pass other rooms was just a new experience for us . That said it was a lovely big bathroom spotlessly clean with its own key ! In no way a deal breaker ..

The hosts were very welcoming. Had fantastic suggestions of where to visit to help us enjoy our stay more. We felt really welcome. The hotel was perfectly placed to enjoy Swanage.

Ensuite bathroom a little small - not a problem for us, but might have been for some.
Very friendly helpful host - lovely welcome, even from the dogs (she checked with us before letting them out!). Really well cooked breakfast, to order.

This was in a perfect location to access the centre of town. Having parking was a bonus. Our hosts were extremely friendly and knowlegable about the area with recommendations of where to eat.

Everything was good.
The owner was friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was lavish and freshly prepared. The decor was impressive and the rooms provided everything needed for comfort. Location was next to the town and the beach.
