Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesMy receipt said I could cancel ahead of time, but the staff refused to honor that, even though I made my request within the allowed timeframe for a refund. I wanted to change from 4 nights to 3 nights.

AustraliaIt appears to be a very large place accommodating a lot of people. This leads to the facilities being used a lot and can often be found left messy. The cleaners do a great job and can always see them moving about. The beds are fairly squeaky and no place or shelving to store small things like phone or water bottle if on the top bunk. The lockers were very fidly and looked like they needed to be updated with new locks. The place was a maze and signage can be a little confusing regarding the intention of what facilities are for which genders. The male showers was a journey and a half from the room when the female showers were right at the room.
The staff were great and very helpful. They ensured a smooth check in. We got there before our check in time and were able to complete a pre-check in and leave our bags. When it came time to check in, it was as easy as turning up, grabbing the keys and ready to go. The rooms were decent sized and plenty of space.

ItalyI didn't like much the bathroom, both in cleanliness and space available terms.
I liked the cost-quality ratio. I liked the big room with big windows and I liked the position of the hostel in the city. Also the staff was very nice and welcoming.

RomaniaMaybe the cleanliness of the bathrooms was lacking a little, and the beds were very very noisy everytime we turned during sleeping.
The location was great, everything could be approached and it took us maximum 20 minutes to get to the Cathedral, beautiful nightlife.

GermanyWarm covers were not that clean. Kitchen was dirty. No kettle. The door could not be closed from inside without pulling it strongly and making real loud noise, so if someone is sleeping at the time you would wake them up for sure and it happens every time when someone is entering the room. Upper beds were quite shaking. Large water bottle for hiking of one of us was stolen from the luggage room and they did not give any effort to find although there were cameras on all common areas (maybe they considered water bottle not that big deal). Several toilets and showers, not all seemed clean. Most of us decided not to take shower there due to hygiene reasons.
Perfect location, clean bedsheets, comfy matress, could drop off luggage before check in and leave after check out for couple of hours. Friendly reception available most of the time.

RussiaThe room was quite noisy, all the sounds from the street could be heard. Because of the number of people in the room at some point it became very stuffy.
The location is very good, close to the city center. Room was clean, the lockers were in the room, the bathroom is private for the room, so only people who stay there can use it.

MexicoSome parts were not very clean, it was like if they just mopped and that’s it.
It’s really big, staff was great, I forgot something in the luggage room and they kept my stuff while I returned to picked it up, also was cool they have bathrooms also outside the rooms, besides they have kitchen and I use their washing machine and dryer which they were okay, and it was cool they rent reading lights, it was great that way I didn’t have to bother the other people because it was a shared room.

United KingdomLots of stairs (can't be helped; 15th century building and all), no reading lights included (available to rent from reception), and sheets are given to you upon arrival, no pre-made beds.
The location is amazing. Right next to a grocery story (helpful for making meals in the hostel kitchen), close to Santo Spirito and restaurants, and a short walk to tourist sites. The staff is wonderful and very helpful and the cleanliness is top tier.

IrelandSo this is fine for a night or two if you want to see the city on limited time and want the ease of getting around walking everywhere, but wouldn't recommend it longer than that. Female bathroom floors were wet (just a curtain covering each), there were at least three guys in the female bathroom in the morning, and there was no tissue the first time I went to use the toilet. No lift, so you'll be carrying any luggage up stairs. You'll have to pay for a night light and/or a towel, though credit where credit is due, it's just 1e each and a 5e returnable deposit, which is actually pretty good. Think there might've been a club somewhere nearby, based on the noise, but it wasn't too bad. Very much a younger crowd sort of vibe, they have like 'no loitering by the door past midnight' signs, people coming in and turning on the lights at 1am, etc. I'd asked for a ground bunk under special requests, they said they'd try and then when I got in were like, they're assignable (so they could've reserved me a bottom) but we didn't assign you a bottom one and now it's too late bc you're the last in. So guess they just straight up forgot the request and agreeing to it. Like, if I'd known it was dependent on how early I got in then I 'd have come earlier, why tell me they'll handle it and then fail to when they actually could. Also, you'll have to put your own sheets on, which isn't the worst but if you're coming in late and tired and in the dark, not great. Small things but all added up was just annoying, especially given I'd just spent four days in a dif hostel that was a bit further out but cost 30% less and had none of these issues (tho it'd had a private bathroom so I guess that's not comparable).
The location was good, you could pretty much walk everywhere and it was fairly nearby the river, plus plenty of buses to take you to the main station/trams. Also appreciate the 3am-6am curfew, nice to know people won't be coming in at weird hours and turning on lights and such.

ArgentinaThere were no rules about getting in and out the room at bedtime. Eleven french girls went out for party at 11PM and came back at 4AM making noise. When i tried to complain to at night shift manager about that, he answered "if you wanted a quiet night you should have paid a private room".

RussiaGinormous rooms (20+ bunks) with no privacy curtains. Reading lights have to be rented. Electric stove in the kitchen that takes months to heat up.
Property easy to locate and within quick walk from rail station and historical center. Friendly check-in and stable WiFi on the premises. Good in the cleanliness department: better in the bathrooms, worse in the kitchen, where sinks were perennially clogged. Comfortable sleeping temperatures (winter), and very cozy mattresses. Spacious dining/hangout hall adjacent to the kitchen.
