Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

BelgiumThe hotel is a bit outdated. The staff does not speak English very well. No baby cot available.
We chose the hotel for it's view on Mt. Fuji. Apart from this, the hotel has a nice Spa. We took a traditional room which is quite a nice experience. The hotel lays next to the ropeway and a busstop which provides good connectivity. The breakfast and dinner buffet are ok.

AustraliaWe were disappointed it was a private bath not a private onsen. We would have liked to have experienced a hot spring.
The room was really nice and the area was lovely.

IrelandSome of the nice seating areas are only open a few hours a day, while a lot of the reception staff did not have great English so we found it difficult to ask questions about amenities etc. I don’t expect everyone to speak great English on our holidays but found it surprising that hotel front of house staff didn’t given they work in the tourism/hospitality sector. We personally liked the quiet location north-east of the lake but it’s probably worth warning those who would like to be closer to the more “lively” side of Hakone that that is on the south side of the lake. All the restaurants/Shops/bakeries are a gondola and boat ride away.
The location is nice and quiet with lovely ground to go exploring, nearby forests for walking and great views of Mount Fuji on a clear day! The staff were friendly and willing to help, and the buffet breakfasts and dinners were excellent with almost unlimited choice for all tastes! The rooms were clean and spacious with everything you’d need. The onsen is a nice way to spend 30 mins or so relaxing.

HungaryNothing to mention.
Excellent location to you explore Hakone, since the hotel is right next to the cable car station. We arrived early, so we could enjoy free drinks in the lobby until we could occupy our room. The onsen is really nice, just like the breakfast and the dinner which both have broad selection with nice service.

AustraliaYou can only access this hotel via ropeway, bus or car. The hotel shuttle bus will only take you to the nearest bus stop. If there is bad weather the ropeway service maybe suspended, and taxis are hard to book. Beware some of the path from Ubako ropeway station to the hotel is muddy and rocky.
Room and bathroom were spacious. Dinner buffet was really good. Staff were helpful. Short walk to hotel from Ubako ropeway station.

United StatesIt was a long bus ride to this hotel and taxis were expensive but necessary to get around. Not a lot to do at the hotel except the onsen.
Breakfast was both Japanese and western so there were lots of options at meal time. The onsen was well kept and had beautiful views of nature.

AustraliaExpected more for my money - Meals were of very good quality. Don't expect to get views of Mt Fuji or onsens in every room as advertising seems to suggest.
Accomodation is of average quality and seems a little lost in the 1980's - The decor and facilities are quite tired but kept very clean and comfortable - Areas such as under the beds and on top of ward robes were quite dusty.

LithuaniaA tad expensive, but is somewhat undestandable considering location and services provided. Though I had to rent a room for 2, they do not have option for loners.
- Great location with direct view of Mount Fuji. - Has a decent onsen located on premises that was quite nice. Onsen also has sauna available at certain times. - Breakfast/dinner was very high in variety of dishes. - Japanese style room was big and spacious. Nevertheless has a comfy feel to it.

United KingdomHard to find fault when you have views like this! The rope way closes quite early, so we had a bit of adventure getting back to the hotel after the cruise on lake Ashi. But it all added to our experience.
It’s a bit remote! Getting there by train is an experience, but once at Ubako station, it’s a short walk. We left our suitcases at Odawara, which made it easier. Views were sensational. Food is good and there is plenty of choice. Our room was very comfortable and spacious.
