Wow did Ryokan Shinsen ever meet and exceed our expectations! Our room was incredible. The cleanliness and attention to detail in the design of the property and gardens are wonderful. The staff treated us like gold. They were especially considerate towards my girlfriends serious gluten allergy at dinner, and also my desire to not eat seafood.

They offered us a small kitchen and free tea. The common area gave us the opportunity to meet other people. Room was spacious and well heated. Even though the hosts didn’t speak English, they showed us lots of hospitality.

It was a lovely tidy room that made good use of the small space. The staff were super friendly and it was a good location to get to the gorge and to town. Highly recommend.

Great location, near Takachiho Gorge and Shrine. Great staff, friendly, helpful and can speak English. View on the mountain is amazing, despite rainy weather when we stayed.

Wow! I'm always looking for unique, one-of-a-kind stays and this one made for a stunning experience. Kind owner, gorgeous views, fresh mountain air mixed with the scent of tatami, super spacious interior that made me feel right at home. If you're looking for a sterile, bland apartment rental, perhaps this isn't for you, but if you want something different, something authentic, you'll love it. My favourite stay on my Kyushu trip!
