Had a great stay. The host Simon is one that you can only dream of. He’s a very sweet man that speaks English well, replies via Booking App faster than you can learn konichiwa, picks you up from the station, brings you to the start of the Kumano Kodo without even asking. The rooms are big, traditional Japanese and have everything you need. Was very clean. The plum wine of Simon’s partner from the plum trees around the house was very tasty as well!

We loved the very traditional Ryokan and the kind and friendly Masa and Sara who just made our stay (myself with adult son and adult daughter) most enjoyable. The food was excellent with a combination of Japanese and French. We felt very much at home sharing the place with other guests who were also very friendly (Alex and Jenny).

A quiet, peaceful little house set amongst rice fields in the village of Chikatsuyu. We arrived in the village a little earlier than expected and ran into the owner, Shino, in the street. The house is a short walk away from the mean street, set amongst rice fields. Small but comfortable, and being a small village, everything is close. Of note, it’s a 10 minute walk to some shops (with bakery and supermarket) and in town there is the excellent cafe run by Shino herself and some great coffee shops. We got the full meal package and Shino’s dinner was excellent and we had breakfast the next morning in her charming shop. The bento lunches provided were perfect for the trail.
