Cannot recommend hotel highly enough as solo bike packer. I could leave bike in a safe place. It’s a classic old hotel with steep steps etc. Small room and wc shared, hence low in facilities. And this was reflected in price making it excellent value for money. Everything was clean and the location was excellent, just off from the Arena in the old town. And the host was truly excellent and really helpful with suggestions where to visit, eat etc. Ten out of ten.

With arguably the most impressive Roman heritage outside Rome, Nîmes is truly a sight to behold. Its most awe-inspiring structure is the virtually intact Roman amphitheatre. The gladiators are long gone, but a matador statue outside gives an idea of its current use, which is most celebrated during the annual Feria.
Another amazing Roman monument is the Maison Carrée, a colonnaded temple. The Temple of Diana is less well preserved, but still maintains some of its arched roof and interior details. The peaceful, surrounding Fontaine Gardens cover the grounds of the former Roman baths and still contain elegant water features.
Also water-related is the incredible Pont du Gard, a triple-arched Roman aqueduct across a river north-east of Nîmes. Other Roman remains include the Tour Magne, and 2 gates that allowed access through the city walls.
The Nîmes Archaeological Museum in the former Jesuit college provides background to this history and also houses the Warrior of Grezan, a pre-Roman statue. Another museum houses a fine art collection, and the simple cathedral is also worth visiting.
In addition to plenty of restaurants and bars, Nîmes has a good range of accommodation. Booking.com’s options include luxury hotels by Parc Expo Nimes, and cheap apartments near the train station, all easily accessible from Nîmes-Alès-Camargue-Cévennes Airport.

So many historical attractions to visit, all within easy walking distance from the Royal Hotel. Public Transport was plentiful as was the bars, restaurants and cafés. Favourite place we visited was the Arena, we also enjoyed a visit to the Roman Aqueduct, a 30 minute drive away. Everything else, we walked to. A really good variety of restaurants serving very reasonably priced meals, plus our hotel had a restaurant. Nowhere to avoid in our opinion, everyone we met was happy, helpful and kind. We would happily visit Nimes again in the future and recommend the city.

Full of Roman history, monuments in Nimes are within a walkable distance. Worth buying the Discovery pass which gets you into the amphitheatre, Roman museum, Maisonette Carree and Tour Magne. The pass can be bought from whichever site you first visit.
Also visit the Jardins de la Fontaine. The park is extensive and very impressive and you can see the natural spring that used to be the water source. We found the Castellum where the Romans brought the water supply into Nimes via the Point du Gard. From a central chamber the water was fed out to areas in Nimes through lead pipes. It's amazing to still see where the outlets for the pipes were.
From the bus station in Nimes we went on bus number 121 to Pont du Gard. This is one trip that's a must!! We got off at Vers Pont du Gard. The bus stop names are well displayed on the bus well in advance of the stop. From there was about a 10 minute walk to the visitor centre and another 10 to the aqueduct. There is a cinema and museum in the visitor centre. The museum was quite interesting but the film in the cinema seemed a bit pointless.
We also took the 130 bus to Arles. We bought a Liberty pass that got us into 4 monuments and 1 museum. We did the amphitheatre and the theatre, where we sat with our picnic lunch. The cryptoportiques, where you get to wander in the underground cellars, was more extensive than we had thought it would be. We decided on the Alyscamps for our 4th monument visit. Tombs of Roman and Christians lined the avenue leading out of Arles. Would have liked some more information on what some of the inscriptions could have been.
In Nimes visit Les Halles. This indoor food market has a superb display of produce and even if you are not buying, is well worth the visit.

Nimes is great for a few days; enough museums and Roman history to keep anyone amused for a couple of days (including children) - the town itself is relatively small but has good connections by bus and train to other areas worth exploring. The Tourist Information will provide advice on how to get there.
A combined ticket for the Roman remains and the museum is great value - especially if you engage with the audio guides.

A very clean well presented city , easy to walk around when in the old quarters. Good for shopping , eating and historical places . We visited Le Maison Carree . The arena , the Jardins de la Fontaine. On a triple combined ticket purchased on line . A very pleasant stay
Beautiful historic property. Lovely common spaces, comfortable sitting areas, bar, small pool, outdoor terrace and courtyard. Bed and linens were very comfortable of high quality. Our room was very quiet. We were welcomed by a very accommodating staff. Wonderfully located hotel got the old city, but if you have a car the parking garages are a 5-10 minute walk, and difficult to navigate unless you have a very small car and are experienced maneuvering in tight places!
The location is fantastic: surrounded by nature, far away from everyday noise, but at the same time not too far from the city. Nothing is left to chance, everything is taken care of down to the last detail (cleanliness, decor, etc.) The owners are exquisite, helpful and ready to welcome you and make you feel at home. This is the ideal place to relax and get in touch with this fantastic piece of France.
This is a great place to stay in Nimes. The staff are exceptionally helpful and charming and the rooms are comfortable and well-equipped. Although there are no lifts, staff immediately volunteer to carry any cases to the room. Breakfast is plentiful and varied. The hotel is well within walking distance of all the main sites of interest. We would definitely stay again. Great value for money too.
We stayed 2 nights and found the hotel of high quality with excellent service. It was perfectly located for our needs as we were day-tripping to local sites and could avoid being in downtown Nimes. The real bonus was the excellent on site restaurant for guests only, which provided a different single-option menu every night cooked to perfection. It truly made our stay complete.
The hotel has its own secure parking, swimming pool and spa. The room is very spacious and was very clean. The staff at the reception were very courteous, welcoming and helpful. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a room with balcony. A very pleasant stay. If back in Nîmes, will definitely stay there again.
We only stayed overnight while travelling through, but it was ideal for our needs. Close to the train station and only the attractions. In 24 hours, we got a good taste of what Nimes has on offer. The staff in the hotel were friendly and let us leave our bags there after checkout while we walked around.
This was a wonderful Oasis near the town center in Nimes. Well designed room will all the comforts of a 5 star hotel. Jonathan was a great host providing excellent restaurant recommendations and a wonderful breakfast poolside the next morning! This is the perfect small luxury hotel to stay at in Nimes!
Great location! Perfect for our last-minute decision to stay the night in Nimes. The bed was quite comfortable. The room was a bit small, but typical for much of France. The curtains were reat, as they let you control how much light makes it into the room in the daytime.
Nice facilities with a good pool.
Excellent bed and bath facilities. Family friendly.
Elevators and aircons were good. Reception is 24h.
Hearty breakfast options.
Parking is safe and fantastic.
Location perfect for us - close to drive or uber to historical centre
The apartment has charm, it is located in an old building in the historic centre , 5 minutes away from a parking garage at the main market. You can walk everywhere you need as the main sites are close.
Perfect!
- Practical and reasonable price
- Amicable smile and good English communication skill of almost all employees
- Very easy access to all Roman relics in Nimes from hotel by walking

The outside of the hotel is very charming.

We didn't use a restaurant so have no opinion in that matter.
the property was amazing, it’s Thailand brought to France. the facilities were great and Joy was very accommodating with any requests and made our stay comfortable and a pleasure!
Nice and clean hotel in the center of town. The room was spacious enough for me and the bed comfortable.
