Open-plan and open-minded, Cambridge is best known for universities dating to the 13th century. King’s College is the most popular, and its chapel choir is internationally famous. Although accessed from cobbled King’s Parade, it is best viewed from a punt on The Backs, the part of the River Cam behind.
Taking a flat bottomed punt in Cambridge is an institution and gives great views of Queen’s College Mathematical Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs at St John’s College. Upstream is Jesus Green, site of an outdoor pool and a fantastic beer festival. Next to this is Midsummer Common, a park home to the annual Strawberry Fair (and the occasional cow). Opposite are the college boathouses - get up early to see the rowers in action!
Cows also roam the Mill Pond meadow, where the river leads south to Grantchester, a quaint village with a lovely cafe. Places to eat in Cambridge include riverside restaurants and typical English pubs like The Eagle, drinking hole of DNA founders Watson & Crick.
Cambridge shopping options include a daily market (in Market Square), the Grafton Centre and the exclusive Grand Arcade, the latest addition. The Scott Polar Museum and free Fitzwilliam Museum are 2 of many fantastic Cambridge museums.
Stansted Airport is connected by train to the city’s accommodations choices on Booking.com.

We loved Cambridge and the beautiful architecture and streets. We visited the David Attenburgh museum of zoology, so much to see and so interesting. Parked our car in the Grand Arcade which leads to the large shopping mall.
Plenty of places to eat around the old streets. It was raining so we didn’t go far on foot. Well worth a visit!

Beautiful area with amazing buildings!
Beautiful area with amazing buildings! Easy to walk everywhere. Lots of cafes to find something to eat, and this includes the market. Many green areas. Perhaps if a taxi is required, pre book it as mine did not arrive. Lots of lovely shops if you wish to go shopping, including ice cream shops.
Worth going on a punt tour as you learn so much and all questions are answered with detail. You get to see the other view of the colleges and various bridges that you cannot see due to colleges being closed to visitors as students are studying.

Lunch in Fitzbillies was amazing, again lovely staff and the food was the best I’ve had in a while.
Books shops and art galleries a plenty which meant we run out of time before seeing the 39 steps at the arts theatre. A brilliant day.

Not a good idea to go mid-may as most colleges are closed to visitors with "keep out" signs and guards to enforce it, and that just adds to how posh the place looks and feels. The Scott polar research exhibit was the absolute highlight of my stay though
Beautiful modern hotel, the interior is really nice, the bed is huge and comfy.
The staff and housekeeping was really kind and helpfull, thank you!
The public transport is amazing and right in front of the hotel, so you can visit Cambridge without the 40 minute walk to the city centre.
The hotel is really quiet, there wasn’t any street noise or anything else.
There is a big tv that you can connect really easy to your phone, so you can cast your favourite show.
We would like to stay here again!
Room basic clean and nice and cool on hot day, iron board iron & spare fan left in room great, Bedding and bed comfortable. Tea and coffee making in room, nice. Good location as we were visiting family Cherry Hinton side of the town but this is not a great Hotel for Cambridge City centre if you are a tourist. Your would need to drive in or take a nearby bus.We knew the area well. Free parking while at hotel. If they got breakfast sorted a cheap place to rest overnight.
We had a great stay at Centennial hotel, couldn’t fault anything. Our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The hotel is in a great location and the car park is a massive bonus, we left our car and walked into the city centre which is an easy walk along a straight road and takes about 15 mins. The staff were lovely and breakfast was delicious. Great value for money and I will definitely be staying again when I’m next in Cambridge!
The hotel is right next to the Station which is very nice if you arrive late at night. It is a fair but very do-able walk if one is visiting the University, with lots of lovely bakeries and coffee shops along the way. The room was very nice and clean. The decor is minimalist but the design is very clever. They happily stored our luggage for us after we had checked out, until we left on the train later in the day.
I live in Cambridge and booked it for visiting family because of the perfect location. It’s quiet, but essentially in downtown and an easy walking distance from Parkside (the national express from Heathrow). The place itself exceeded my expectations, it’s a lovely flat with very comfortable amenities. My parents loved the giant king bed. Shower also got glowing reviews. I would definitely pick this place again.
The Gonville Hotel is great location to the attractions of Cambridge Easy walking distance Beautifully attired decor around the hotel and the room itself was very nice I booked a twin room for a friend and i and it was very pleasing to the eye very clean and spacious The hotel staff welcoming , friendly , helpful and all members of staff we came in to contact with , reception, bar ,restaurant just lovely.
it is located at a motorway services which gave our very varied group a number of eating options for the 4 nights we were there. there is a little bar and lounge in reception which was a good meeting place for a drink before dinner. We had to use taxis to get in and out of Cambridge. Much cheaper when booked through the hotel. Even though it’s on a busy road, we did not hear any traffic!
Excellent location. Very central, yet also one of the best districts of Cambridge.
Very professional and friendly staff.
Superb spacious room with very good room facilities.
The historic and characterful buildings of the hotel. An especially pleasing aspect of all Hotel du Vin hotels.
The breakfast was/is always of extremely good quality as it always is in Hotel du Vin hotels.
The room was the best we have ever had during our travels. Exceptional surroundings , and breakfast was really good
. .Location was fine for us, as we could easily get into Cambridge High Street. This hotel has spoilt us for any other places, as it was exceptional. The views and the historical context of surroundings, make this an ideal visit, along with everything else.
The Summerhouse was clean, furnished in good taste, and had most things we needed. Our host was helpful and friendly. He provided us with the milk of our choice on arrival and a change of towels during the week. Girton is close to Cambridge city centre, so it is easy to get anywhere. It is considerably cheaper than a hotel in central Cambridge.
Helpful and friendly staff, lots of character, unbelievable a building this old still being used today as a Hotel. Room was comfortable and clean. Perfect location for visiting Duxford Air Museum, with decent pub and restaurant on site.
Would definitely recommend or stay again in future.
Lovely hotel, great room, swimming pool was great bonus with hot tub/sauna (was busy in the day but fine in the evening) Staff were exceptional! A half hour walk to Cambridge city center or short 5 mins away on train. Highly recommend!
No frills hotel for a great price, good for work travel. My room was quiet despite being right near the train station - good location to reach anywhere in central Cambridge. The room was nicely decorated and comfy bed.
Lovely hotel for a cheaper and more convenient trip to Cambridge. The room was very clean. We have shared toilets and bathrooms, which are quite clean and not that busy.
Lovely boutique hotel and the decor is gorgeous.
Rooms are lovely, with air con and we had a balcony room overlooking the river.
