It was in a beautiful location overlooking a pond, with sheep and rolling hills. It was very comfortable and spacious, we even had our own living room. Breakfast was delicious. Would love to have stayed longer. We booked very last minute, so pleased we found this treasure.

A quiet village on the main roads from Newtown to Llandrindod Wells. There are no facilities or visitor attractions in the village but the Lion Hotel is well located for walking and trips to mid-Wales attractrions.
We planned a short walking holiday in the centre of Wales and The Lion Hotel was just right for purpose. Very clean with a rustic charm, excellent breakfasts and equally excellent pub food in the evenings. It’s aimed at the budget market so our room was compact but the electric shower was adequate and my picky wife declared the bathroom to be very hygienic. (It was a bit dated so we called it ‘retro’.) Our twin beds were comfy with a selection of pillows, and all of this plus two very friendly, helpful hosts made for a relaxed stay.
In the days of hotel chains it was so nice to find a well run, privately owned, place to stay.
We had a dual aspect room with plenty of light and gorgeous views of the surrounding countryside. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. So much so that we overslept.
When had we asked what time breakfast was, we were asked, 'when do you want it?'
The overall feeling was that the owners were trying to provide good, old fashioned service.
We definitely want to stay again.
Hotel was quite convenient for the showground at Builth Wells. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Even to the extent that on having a flat tyre on our car they managed to sort it out. although we had a tyre inflator with us it had gone wrong. They went to the trouble of telephoning their son to bring his compressor round to reinflate the tyre very early in the morning. Lovely people!
The owners were incredibly welcoming and the food (especially the authentic curry) was brilliant. The hotel is situated in an idyllic Welsh setting on the valley floor with rolling hills, a stream, sheep and cattle all within view of the beer garden.
All in all I couldn't recommend this place enough.
Janet and Ray are welcoming, friendly, and helpful.
I am coeliac and Janet provided an excellent variety of meals to choose from. All the food was delicious.
I would definitely recommend Lion Hotel to friends and family and I will go back there next time I'm in the area.
99% of things about this place were excellent and exceeded my expectations. In this hotel history meets modern simplicity. People are very friendly and little pretty flower garden has various chicken and fowl to observe.
Very good breakfast and location. Great Welsh hosts who had a wealth of local knowledge. Beautifully renovated room with an excellent shower in a nice county hotel. Would thoroughly recommend.
The hotel is nice and traditional the rooms are ok, we were made very welcome and the evening meal was great, our breakfast was good and filling ready for a long day, we would go again...
Beautiful location and the hotel was spotless. The host was very welcoming with some fantastic stories to tell, as well as an abundance of local knowledge. We would definitely return.
