We stayed at the Red Fox Lodge in Myoko for three fabulous nights. It was very comfortable for our family of 4, with adjoining rooms. We loved the authentic Japanese feel of the lodge. Very warm and Brendon, the host, was very kind and friendly and helped us get around town and recommended some delicious traditional restaurants. The boys were lucky enough to get some end of season snow to play in and build a snow man and we were able to do some beautiful treks through the village and up to the waterfall.
It was very helpful to have an English speaking host, as he was able to tell us a lot about the history of the area and showed us rice paddies which are still operational after 600 years. There is a traditional Onsen a short 5 min walk around the corner which was well worth visiting too.
We loved Myoko during the spring time. It was a peaceful change of pace to the big cities and gave us a chance to relax and enjoy walking in nature and looking at the many cherry blossoms that we in bloom with comfortable temperatures each day between 18-23 degrees. Well worth a visit. It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Many thanks Brendon for your warm hospitality’s hospitality.

This is a small ryokan with ensuite toilets in every room run by a friendly and obliging elderly couple in great location 1km from Alpenblick skifield and 400m from Alpenblick spa with its famous black water pools and great Japanese restaurant. There is not a shared bathroom in the western sense, but a simple but authentic private onsen in house. The hot water and teabags and snacks in the corridor were much appreciated as was the hot drink and biscuits at reception on returning from skiing .

We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow!
We went to Myoko for the snow and we got the snow! Loved the long ski runs at Suginohara and skiied there 3 days. Also skied one day each at Ikenotaura Onsen and Seki Onsen. Low visibility killed us! Be prepared to ski in low cloud and less groomed tracks.
Lime Resort Onsen was fantastic.
Local restaurants (Chinese, Japanese and Greek) were great food and value for money.

Akakura Onsen is a nice small village with plenty of restaurants and hotels. Some were closed due to the small amount of visitors, but as there was so much snow it was nice to have space everywhere. Good variety of foods, and a few bars. Make sure your lodge has transportation when the shuttle buses don't drive around the resorts (like this month, which made traveling around harder unless you have 4-wheel drive AND snow tires).

We loved the comfy beds and shared lounge, bar & dining area, the hot tub after being out in the snow all day and the freshly prepared breakfast and dinner. Fabulous vegan and vegetarian options and western friendly. Wonderful owners who made us feel so welcome from the start. Felt like a home stay and we could’ve stayed for longer! Great local recommendations and activities close by.

On a scale out of 10 would rate Myoko about a 6.
On a scale out of 10 would rate Myoko about a 6. The mountain infrastructure is very old and tired which accounts for the low cost of lift tickets. The mountain lacks steepness.
Besides the many small restaurants it lacks a village atmosphere.
The mountain geography doesn't support advanced skiers.
It is not clearly sign posted for runs which also makes it difficult.
We found Japan much more expensive than what it was 5-6 years ago and would probably go back to Canada for more value.

Gorgeous quaint Japanese village with authentic restaurants, amazing snow and ski resorts very close by. Very friendly locals, who go out of their way to help you, even with language barriers. Fantastic place to visit for snow sports, lift tickets are incredibly cheap compared to Australia - around $40-50 per day depending on discounts through accommodation, etc. Great place to visit!
The breakfasts were fabulous this property. Every morning, we had a good selection of western and eastern options. Mieko’s pancakes were a real hit with the kids.
We loved using the onsen each night.
The property offers a free shuttle to and from Myoko Kogen station. We were warmly greeted by Cooper on the first day of our stay at the station.
But the real highlight of this property are the staff and customer service. It is a family-run property who care about their guests. We will be back.
Hotel staffs are super friendly and helpful. Onsen is good and clean. Breakfast is fantastic . I have requested japanese breakfast on the last day and they prepared a nice salmon, veg and jap rice for us. Place is cosy and quiet. Peace and relax.
Best place to chill. Staff even helped us to transport all bulky heavy baggages & ski equipment to the bus stop @1000 yen only. Highly recommended.
Our stay at Hotel Myosen was exceptional. We loved the breakfast each morning, the quiet building, comfortable beds and most of all the natural mineral water onsen. Soaking after a day of skiing was a treat. The staff was very helpful with directions to get there and also helped us ship our giant ski bags onward. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and would recommend Myosen to anyone.
Great resort, awesome skiing in winter season. Easy accessible, food is plentiful, staff are excellent, rooms are beautiful well equipped. They gave us 3 rooms adjoining in a private little wing that made us feel special. Family holidays are fun. Especially with hotels and resorts like these.
Can get expensive but for what it is, it was worth it.
Was lovely to experience a traditional room. the onsen was a very special experience - it has both an inside and outside bath. The hotel had a shuttle to the ski fields daily which made it very easy. The restaurant gives you a traditional meal experience which is a lot of food. we had a shared bathroom which was clean
It is one of the best ski resorts for beginner. The slope is a good challenge for newbies and the lift ticket is cheap and not crowded at all. I can get to snowboarding right in the back of the hotel. I would recommend it for families with elderly and kids. The dinner is included and it is very good and delicious.
Within 5 min walk from town, beautiful modern onsen and spacious, comfortable Japanese room, this was such an enjoyable a stay. I heard the food here during snow season is incredible so I might plan a trip back soon. it’s also a true ski in ski out so that’s something I really look forward to
Location was fabulous, views were stunning. Easy hotel shuttle ride to/from Myokokogen station. Lovely free drinks at happy hour(s) every afternoon. Wonderful indoor and outdoor hot spring baths. I painted outdoors when it was sunny, and indoors when cold, snowy/rainy. JonBradham.com
The staff at Myoko Forest Lodge were exceptional. They cooked great food, had excellent tips and advice about the area including good info on where the best snow might be found. We were treated like VIPs by everyone.
The beds were super warm and cozy and the inhouse bath was divine.
We liked the ski-in, ski-out feature and dinner set prices across all restaurants were the same. the food was delicious and the staffs were very helpful. the pro party has a shuttle bus that offered free pick up and drop off at the Jyoetsu-Myoko station.
A warm, inviting and comfortable family run hotel. Located away from the busy Akakura main street, but a free shuttle uphill is provided daily to town and the nearby ski-lifts, while the pleasant downhill walking trips at night are a magical experience.
Great old style mountain lodge just off the main road. Breakfast and dinner were prepared by a sweet woman with years of experience and knowledge about the area. Lots of guests from all over the world but still had a nostalgic Japanese feel.
Close proximity to town and lifts, great lodge feel, friendly staff, lovely rooms. I would definitely stay again. I loved the family bedroom great mountain view. Thanks all for making our stay lovely. Best espresso martini’s in Myoko.
Owner is wonderful and very friendly. Great to have a limitless supply of lift ticket discount coupons. Restaurant within hotel if you are lazy to go out or other places nearby are full. Onsen is small but decent.
The family that runs the hotel and restaurant are the kindest, most helpful people we have ever met. We were constantly greeted by smiles, asked if we needed help, and our kids were even given gifts when we left.
The owner shows his warmly hospitality. He offered a pickup and drop down service for skiing and Myoko Kogen station. breakfasts and dinners are good !
