The food was amazing! We had an excellent breakfast before walking the Kumono Kodo trail and the lunch bento box was delicious as well.
Nice smell of incense on arrival. The dining room was very cool with alot of American memorabilia. I love the saloon doors that lead to the bathroom.
Really close to kii tanabe and Isakyas as well.

Breakfast was utilitarian but very sufficient and had enough variety for hikers. The room was very comfortable and nicely furnished, bathroom was clean and well equipped and made for a very pleasant stay. Location is also very convenient - walkable to the main train station and plenty of eateries around.

What an amazing gem of a place and the kindest most welcoming people. The food was fantastic and our hosts were so lovely. The food was even better than we imagined. We even got to meet the goats and some baby kids that were born that day!

A beautiful well renovated traditional Japanese house. The host was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips and hike on Kumano Kodo. The breakfast at the café was delicious. We will stay here on our next visit. A wonderful experience!

Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.

A great little town, and ideal jumping-off point for the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage.
The pub quarter was a fun place to get a drink and dinner: great Tako Yaki.
Both the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre staff and the Kumano Kodo Travel staff were impeccably professional and helpful in making arrangements for the pilgrimage walk. Cannot rate their quality of service highly enough.
We stayed at this hotel before our Kumano Kodo trekking on the next day. The hotel is very closed to the Kii Tanabe Station and bus station, so it is very convenient to catch the early bus to Takajiri-oji to start the trekking. The room is clean and has laundry service (fees applied). We stayed at one of the rooms in early Summer which is the mosquito's season. We were bombarded by a few mosquitoes at night. Hence do remember to bring along the mosquito repellents when you travel to Kii-Tanabe during late Spring /early Summertime.
These two great hosts built the coziest, most beautiful and comfortable cute place which feels like home in heaven thanks to their great hospitality also. It’s super clean and everything for your comfort is well taken care of with an excellent eye for the details. Add to this the most delicious and special fresh cooked French/Japanese cuisine delicacies and you would not want to leave just like we didn’t. It’s also so conveniently located right in the middle of the Kumano Kodo trail! Definitely want to go back!:)
Read reviews carefully. Beware.
Friendly update 2 weeks later - this place is still under investigation from booking.
They hid the review on google obviously, and have apparently been doing this for years - according to other local lodging facilities. I of course have the screenshot, and still have access to the review.
I've been on booking and staying all around Japan for years, this has never happened to me. And again, didn't argue or anything with the guy.
The location is perfect, just at the entrance of the village after the long hike, and right across the bus stop. The room is new and clean. Ike-san speaks good English and Mandarin and enjoys conversations with guests. The cooking is fun. Recommend to order the meal service since most restaurants close early and require reservations. Overall a great immersion experience on the Kumano Kodo.
The owner is very helpful. The location of the Minshuku is next to the bus stop. The riverside open hot spring and the village's public bath are in 2 mins walking distance. There is also a restaurant next door. We got a room on the 3rd floor with a Japanese Kotatsu (heating table). The room is cozy and quiet during the night. We enjoyed our stay in this Onsen village.
Owner was super friendly and welcoming! I arrived late at night, saw that there was a note to call him and he came down right away!
He was also super helpful with pointing out what was around the area/bus timings etc.
It is a short walk from Kii-Tanabe Station. Everything is great for a simple stay before heading off to kumano kodo!
The pickup service from Tanabe JR Station and next morning dropoff at Kumano Kodo start point is a true bonus. Very friendly host and with prompt response on email (thru booking.com). Host can converse in Chinese, Cantonese, English and Japanese.
We were able to arrange a pick up from Kii-Tanabe station, which was very helpful. Also able to do a vegetarian Bento box, which was delicious. The accommodation itself very comfortable. Great way to start the Kumano Kodo.
Simple guest house with traditional tatami and futon rooms. The room was clean, well sized and cosy, with the location very close to Kii-Tanabe station and the izakayas. The owner was great and so helpful and friendly.
Mindhuku Wago was an excellent stay along the kumano kodo! We hadn’t pre-booked dinner but the host was kind enough to drive us to a nearby restaurant. We had a lovely stay and would love to come back one day :)
It is close to everything in Tanabe, easy access to Tanabe station, bus stops, groceries and restaurants.Mr Koji is really helpful and give good recommendations. Arigatou gozaimasu Mr Koji.
Simon is so considerated and passionate, he took us from Kii-Tanabe station to his lovely hostels, and helped us revise our hiking plan. We'll surely come back to visit again.
Great location- short walk from train station. Great communication from the owner. Simple and clean. I was hiking the kumano Kodo trail and this was a perfect launching pad.
Great private room with comfy bed and pillow
Host very friendly and lots of info about area
Easy walk to Tanabe station for bus to Kumano Kodo
Amazing price for private room
The accommodations were close to the train station and Japan travel visitor's center. Although there is a bar below the hostel I was surprised how quiet it was.
