All the staff was very friendly and hardworking (particularly the cleaning and maintenance personnel). There is a lovely garden and pool (and fountain!) courtyard that the rooms lookout over. It is an older building so there are creaks and cracks, but overall it is safe and clean. The balcony door opened into the courtyard! Birds and trees and a cool breeze. It's closer to the freeway than I thought it would be, but only the morning commuter traffic brought a bit of noise...and I could only hear it because I had the door open. Overall it provides, within its budget, a good experience.

Novato is a quiet suburb north of San Francisco.
Novato is a quiet suburb north of San Francisco. It is mainly a working class town with a few enclaves of expensive large houses on acreage lots. There is also an area of large rural properties where horses are popular as well as other barnyard animals. Access to the ocean is via Novato Blvd. ( a central street running through the center of town ); following Novato Blvd. west is a beautiful 45 minute drive to the town of Point Reyes Station and the Pacific Ocean beaches just beyond (10 minute drive further west). Lovely visitor friendly beaches and hiking areas. Local shops & good restaurants, a bakery, a grocery store are all available in the town of Point Reyes Station if you take the ride to the oceanAAnonymous - 10Scored 10
This hotel is a great value!
This hotel is a great value! It's not fancy but it's clean and they are working at updating the rooms. It's close to Point Reyes National Seashore, Muir Woods and downtown San Francisco but it's far enough away that it feels safe and it's very affordable. There wasn't much for breakfast but the breakfasts aren't great even at the hotels that have a lot of offerings for breakfast. We ended up stopping to eat at the Marin French Cheese Co. and highly recommend it.Christina - 10Scored 10
It's a small town surrounded by hills and beautiful...
It's a small town surrounded by hills and beautiful landscapes. It's full of Ma and Pa's businesses. It's relaxing. Sit at the lounge and have a coffee, You'll feel that time just stopped. It's laid back and in contrast to a crowded San Francisco, just 30-minute drive. Proximity to vineyards and wineries.

Perfect for those who don't want to be in the city but convenient enough to visit to San Francisco. And convenient to visit the wine country of Sonoma and Napa Valley and go a little further north to see the tall redwoods forest.AAnonymous - 8.0Scored 8.0
This stay was rather pricey.
This stay was rather pricey. Although clean and generally acceptable, there was only a very basic room/facilities. On the positive side, breakfast was nice with many options. Restaurant next door, Perry's, was really fun and we went twice.ElizabethUnited States - 10Scored 10
An interesting downtown area.
An interesting downtown area. Met some very nice and helpful folks. Was disappointed that the American Indian Museum was closed but no advance notice of same. That was my primary reason for visiting the town. Apparently they are remodeling. I found the Novato Historical Museum instead. Talked with several helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staffers. Two ladies recommended a good place for dinner, Grazies, which was very good. A “happening” downtown on Saturday night. Felt safe walking from and back to my car for dinner.

I read that this hotel was old and it is but old is not always bad. I think this place is charming. It’s in a wooded like setting, and the rooms are comfortable and very very clean. The TVs were huge and the dish network set up they had was fantastic. Lots of free movies to choose from. I would happily stay at this place again.

Rates for weeknight not bad either for the area.
