Situated in a tranquil area in Gifu Region, a 52-minute drive away from JR Takayama Station, Mozumo boasts a hot-spring bath and rooms decorated with modern Japanese interior. We absolutely loved everything about Mozumo! We were two couples travelling together, we stayed for one night and had dinner all together in one of the rooms. The rooms were very beautiful, in traditional style, comfortable, quiet, and the private onsen was incredible. As for the dinner, one of the best we've ever had. And the staff was extremely polite and helpful. Thumbs up to the lady that was serving our dinner, she was so kind, made us feel so welcome and cared for our every need. Overall, it's a 200% recommended experience!

An excellent place to stay. Food was excellent and facilities were great. The private onsens was the main reason we decided to stay here. They had a small, medium and large private onsens on top of the public baths that were available. Very easy to access and the perfect getaway for myself and the wifey!

Tabist Kazeyuki in Takayama provides adults-only accommodation with free bikes, a garden and a shared lounge. Wow, this place is absolutely beautiful! The room are so spacious with big windows and an incredible view on the mountains. The Tatami mats were actually quite comfortable because they were a bit thicker than what we had before. It so nice to have the private oncen and finally enjoy having a bath together with your partner since they normally have separate gender. They provide tea, a cattle, towels (big and small) and a Kimono in the room. My partner and I loved it so much! the bus station is really close and you can enjoy the day at Kamikōchi, then come back after a long day and relax in the pool, have a nice dinner in one of the nearby restaurants (vegetarian options available!) and then rest and get a good night sleep in this beautiful room. Definitely go there!

Offering an open-air bath and garden view, Hirayukan is situated in Takayama, 35 km from Takayama Station and 37 km from Hida Minzoku Mura Folk Village. Lovely Ryokan in the heart of Hirayu, very close to the bus stop. The Japanese style room was beautiful and large with a serene view overlooking a pond. Everything was comfortable and clean. The onsen had stunning mountain views and the male/female areas swap each day so you can experience different views of the mountains. The buffet breakfast had a huge range of both Western and Japanese food. It was a relaxing and special stay for us.

The onsen (thermal bath) was AMAZING, you can go indoors or outdoors, and is opened almost all day. The staff was friendly and there are some restaurants nearby, one of them made a really good ramen.

At Nakamurakan, guests can relax in the indoor/outdoor hot-spring baths and enjoy traditional multi-course meals with a Nakai-san personal attendant service. The staff here were soooo friendly and helpful. Most of the front desk staff speak decent English and are super helpful. My fiance felt that the privaye onsen was a bit too hot and they were very quick in allowing us to use another one with slightly milder temperatures. The numerous reviews of the lack of cleanliness in the hotel have either been overstated or addressed. The room was very large and clean. The reviews of the onsen having algae are understandably ignorant, the algae is something that onsen enthusiasts enjoy because it (supposedly) has incredibly positive effects on your skin, and is a sign that the onsen water has not been treated with harsh chemicals. The food was incredible and you should definitely opt for the half board. Both breakfasts and dinners we had were a huge spread and very filling, we did have issues breathing after finishing our meals. It is regrettable that there are so many negative reviews which I feel are quite unfair after staying here, as they definitely did make me second guess my choice to stay here. The place has been a bit worn with age but this has only lent to its charm. The futon beds were very comfortable, and better than the ones we slept on at more expensive ryokans. I wish that the gift shop was a bit more well stocked. I hope to return to see this establishment rejuvenated in the future. Perhaps if the garden was restored and certain parts of the hotel refreshed, it would be a truly exceptional stay.
