Highly recommended - we had dinner and breakfast, and they were both amazing. The accomodation is very comfortable, and the staff very nice. The location is easy to get to, even by public transport (there is a bus stop with the same name as the hotel right in front of it). You can take a regular bus to/from Edinburgh, which is pretty cheap.

Set within acres of wooded parkland, this fascinating 13th century fortress is on the banks of the River Esk. We were looking for a castle stay and truly got one! The castle is beautiful, original and has an interesting history. The room was spacious. Spa was a comfortable added value. Dinnering in the Dungeon restaurant with its preceeding practise/ceremony was a great experience not to be missed.

Secret hideaway. Loved the rural atmosphere with horses in the field behind and the lovely little pond in front. The space was clean, comfortable and hi tech. Loved the hot tub that was ready to enjoy when we arrived. It was a quiet peaceful night of sleep.

Set 1.1 km from Butterfly & Insect World, Glenarch House is in Dalkeith and features a garden and a terrace. The accommodation is 2.1 km from the Dalkeith Country Park. It was more than we ever expected … gorgeous property & accomodation . Very comfortable . A quiet retreat if you want to just relax & reflect . Close to Edinburgh ( 20 minute train ride ) for a day trip from Glenarch House . Would recommend the train to Waverley station in Edinburgh . It’s a self catering property , so will need to work out meals for yourselves . Morrisons ( a supermarket) is relatively close for grocery shopping .

The location was brilliant as we were going to a wedding at the castle. The pottery was so cosy and ticked all the boxes, both of the owners were so welcoming and attentive. We even got lucky with the chickens and had fresh eggs! We will definitely be returning. 5*****
