Loved the whole place. The atmosphere, friendliness, Hotels and cafes. It was easy to walk around as long as you can manage steep old streets and very clean and safe. The buildings are mostly restored to their former glory and locals obviously take a pride in the place. There were flowers everywhere and it was mostly pedestrianised. It was also a very convenient point from which to tour the rest of Transylvania. Signposting on the roads could be better. It took us ages to find our way into and out of the old town and onto the main access roads out. You can drop off luggage in the town, but overnight parking is outside. However the hotel staff operated an informal valet parking service which was great.
The castle is the main attraction in Bran- it's nicely remodeled and worth seeing. The views from the castle are nice towards Transylvania. However, without the castle, not much else is going on in the place during the summer. I have not visited during the winter. I loved the Romanian food, and lunch was great. They have a side-street with plenty of shops with trinkets.- The wife Had to go because of my wife. I would have preferred anywhere else after the long drive.:(. The castle was nice and the drive through the mountains was awesome. Food was ok The Husband
Brasov is a lovely town, there is plenty to do there and it is a good central point for seeing the highlights of transylvania, its about an hour from Bran and an hour from Peles castle ( it might be shorter than this but i was there during a national holiday so the traffic was terrible!) in comparison to Bucharest it was more cultural and clean.
Beautiful midieval city, with very lively city center, very affordable taxi transport services and nice people. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates mystic cities and lands as Transylvania is.
If you’re in the Transylvania region then Brasov is a great base to explore from. Brasov itself is so pretty with lots of excellent restaurants and coffee shops. Take the cable car up Mount Tampa. From Brasov you can drive to Rasnov where you can visit the citadel for the most breathtaking views of the countryside. We had snow which made Brasov and Rasnov all the more beautiful. For Italian food, we had excellent meals in Prato and Dei Frati. Brilliant service and very very reasonable. Would return. We drive to Bran from Brasov too, to see Bran Castle. You could spend 4-5 days exploring Brasov, Rasnov and Bran. Would highly recommend this part of Transylvania for an alternative city break. Rent a car to get around and prepare for snow if you travel in oct/nov like we did!
The old town of Sibiu is one of the hidden gems of Transylvania. The Large and Small squares full of character and it’s not very often that there isn’t some cultural event going on in the large square.
Wonderful place to visit, part of Saxon Transylvania, hundrets of years of history, architecture from even medieval times, tasty food andr drinks, nice an friendly people. Highly recommend!
Great to visit during Christmas Fair (November-December). You will experience the true Transylvanian 'Burg' of the High Middle Ages, with lots of nice sights and excellent food. Try getting one of the hotels close enough to walk to the old city citadel area. Experience the Transylvanian cuisine in one of the many restaurants found in the central square(tip: the ones with a small, nearly hidden entrance, small advertising and often situated in the cellars tend to be the best). Visit the museums, worth every penny (not many).
Sibiu was European capital of culture in 2007 and I think this says everything about this great medieval Transylvanian city: lots of culture and history, beautifully restored Old Town, excellent restaurants and cafes.
Sibiu is a quaint and beautiful city. Certainly worth a visit. In fact it’s a great base for visiting Transylvania as it is a big enough town and has lovely restaurants.Had the best prawn pasta (ever - trust me, I’m fussy) at Max’s
Braşov
This is one of the best places we have ever stayed in, and I have been in lots of countries. Lovely, modern and spacious, but with historic charm, this apartment creates a tranquil place for decompressing after walking or sightseeing all day. Just around the corner is the beautiful Black Church, the gateway to Brasov's breathtaking square. The owners meet you and provide many thoughtful touches, like slippers, bottled water and toiletries. This is a charming and well equipped place to base your travels in Transylvania.
The view from the balcony with the surrounding hills and Transylvania down in the valley was beautiful. The spa area is great and the atmosphere truly relaxing. The staff are very friendly and everything is vrey clean and well taken care of. We went off season so there were only a few other couples in the hotel, therefore we could really enjoy the peace and quiet of the location. Hearing the heards of sheep grazing on the nearby hills was an added bonus, an authentic Romanian experience.
I noticed this hotel on my way to get the kids from the airport. I decided to stay here on my return, as everyone in school knew they come to Transylvania. And the kids were just excited when they saw the hotel name and the room. It was a big room, on two levels and it was just perfect. Clean and tidy and very decent conditions. It's a good base for exploring the medieval city if you have a car. If you don't, there's a bust stop just in front of the hotel.
Brilliant location right in the old town. Got the deluxe apartment and it's gorgeous. Medieval design, great attention to detail, 2 bedrooms with 2 queen size beds and another single covered bed. Super nice staff, especially the young lady at the reception when we arrived. Breakfast was good with a nice selection of hot and cold dishes. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking to see Sighisoara/Transylvania.
We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Capitolina City Chic. The location was good for our trip into Transylvania from Budapest, and on to Sighisoara. Parking was easily accessed and only a short walk. Our checking receptionist was friendly and helpful. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, warm, quiet and comfortable. Breakfast was a lovely buffet, with attentive staff. No hesitation recommending this stay in Cluj Napoca.
Cristian
We stayed here on our way back to Bucharest from Transylvania. It is very close to Bran castle (tourist trap). It has a pool and sauna which we did not use but looked very nice. We had dinner there which was standard fare, breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable, bathroom facilities were good and there is a nice balcony. We were a couple but this place is more family oriented. Parking is outside the hotel.
Bran
Nice, warm and welcoming, which was much needed in the temperatures of Transylvania in early February. Staff were very friendly, helpful and made us feel at home. For anyone visiting Romania to see Bran castle the location cannot be beaten, castle can be viewed from the room windows….and the entrance is less than 5mins walk. Overall highly recommended for anyone taking a short, or long, break in Bran.
Sighişoara
The apartment was lovely, clean very spacious and airy. It had a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and tea bags and air con. Perfect location at edge of old town and near a mini market and good restaurants. It also had some seating outside. The host was very responsive with clear self check in instructions. It also had free parking. It was the best value apartment in our Transylvania trip.
Home away from home, Damiani Boutique Hôtel is the finest family owned and family run hotel in the residential part of Sibiu, with all facilities for business and private short or mid-term stays. Breakfast Buffet is generously served every morning; ancestral Transylvanian delicacies and traditional recipes brought directly from local countryside producers. A true feast you will remember.
Cîrţişoara
There are not many places to choose from in the area, so this place is one of the choices. The village is one of the oldest on record Romanian ethnic village in Transylvania. (You won't find that information anywhere in the village though.) The owner is nice, but was a bit tired. The warm water from the shower was refreshing. There is ping-pong and badminton. The place recycles.
Poiana Brasov
This is probably the best hotel in the Transylvanian Alps. The views are just breathtaking and rooms with balconies provide a panoramic view. The front desk staff were very warm and welcoming and willing to help make our stay perfect. Thank you to Mirabella, Andrea, and Paula especially. And the restaurant makes top quality foods with wonderful service. Thank you to Marius as well.
Cluj-Napoca
Great place to stay in Cluj, small but cozy and clean apartment in a very quiet area of the city near Transylvania College and Detunata Parc. It has everything you need, you may cook there, also has a microwave and coffee machine. Comfortable bed, everything well mentained and clean. Very helpful host, would stay there again for sure!
We had an excellent stay in our university city Location is perfect, the hotel exude charm and such a homely feeling with all needed modern facilities. Staff was so welcoming and kind , breakfast special ! We will definitely return ! Highly recommended hotel in Cluj Napoca , Transylvania, Romania
First time in Romania, could not and will not fault anything. Room are very pleasant, spotlessly clean. Shower a bit small, but dine the job. Price wise, very good value for money. Would recommend to anyone touring the area of transylvania. Well done to the hosts, who speak very good English.
Râşnov
it is a perfect hotel for a short stay in the direct area of the Transylvanian mountains and after having spent a day in nature the hotel takes care of you when coming back, excellent service and a surprising outstanding original menu combined with superb Romanian wines,
Cisnadioara
Nice apartment in an old Saxon House with cats and rabits in the yard that was great for kids. We had the chance to be all alone and enjoy the full yard by ourselves. The accommodation is very well equipped. The village is one of the most beautiful in Transylvania.
Exactly as described on booking.com - a very convenient stop-over on your cross Transylvania trip or on your way into the Făgăraș mountains (with their famous Transfăgărașan road). Not too much to see in the town itself. Hotel is up-to-snuff though.
Braşov
The location is very good and the facility is very clean. The facility is located in the city center and is within walking distance of all tourist attractions. The owner of the hostel (Anna) is like your mother in Transylvania :)
This was the best accommodation we stayed at in Romania. Very convenient for the station. Nice and quiet. Pleasant decor. Made a great base for a few nights in Transylvania. Good communication from Dan.
Turda
The hosts are really nice and helpful. The room is very comfortable. There is a friendly dog living in the hotel, it was nice to spend time with her after long days of traveling around Transylvania.
