Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

RomaniaAt the breakfast I received for free only turkish coffee, if I wanted espresso I had to pay extra. Anyway, it was a good thing that I had coffee in the room every morning. My room was at the groudfloor and during the night I heard the steps from the upstair room.
The location was perfect, in the old city, but near to the restaurants’ street, so was quiet. It is near the Hagia Sophia, Blue, Topkapi Palace , Blue Mosque, 10 min on foot. All the staff are young and very kind, I received all the information about touristic attraction, means of transport. The Istanbulcard was very useful. After the first night I complained about the room, that was a little bit small and near the hotel door, so in the morning it was noisy, and they changed my room with an upgraded one, bigger and more comfortable. There was a machine coffee in the room and every day delicious turkish pastry cookies and water. It was very clean and everything is new, the bed was very comfortable. There are netflix, amazon prime and disney channel at the TV😊

United KingdomWe had no issues with any noise from upstairs neighbours owing to the wooden floors as mentioned by other guests, everyone was very respectful early in the morning/late at night. The only issue we had was the ultimate night with guests checking in late, shouting and stomping around like elephants for hours. The staff were very apologetic for this and obviously this is not their fault and rather the guests being disrespectful.
Everything was perfect, staff were exceptional and super welcoming. Everyone went out of their way to ensure all guests were comfortable and enjoying their stay. The aperitivos in the room in the afternoon every day were also really lovely.

United StatesThe staff was extremely attentive, the accommodations were welcoming, breakfast was delicious, the location is perfect, and the added bonus of the Istanbul card was the cherry on top! This was honestly one of the best hotel stays I have experienced in a long time. I cannot recommend Blu Macel enough.

GermanyAs the hotel is a wooden historical building it comes with a low noise isolation. For us it was no problem - decide for yourself.
Historical wooden building in quiet side street renovated with a look for details. The overall Hotel size is very small which gives an family like atmosphere. The personnel was exceptionally friendly and helpful!

United StatesThese weren’t big issues but just some observations (and easy fixes); 1. It would have been great to have two or three jacket / clothing hooks in the room that would allow guests to hang their jackets by the door. 2. We also had one day with a bit of rain and unfortunately all the umbrellas had already been given out/taken. Perhaps a better option would have been to have umbrellas inside the individual rooms.
Location: Blu Macel is in the heart of the old city just a few blocks away from Sultanahmet Square (Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia). We loved the fact that we could walk out of our hotel and be in the hustle and bustle of the city but once inside the hotel everything felt calm and relaxed. Rooms: The rooms were clean, spacious, and very comfortable in a part of the city that seemed to be very cramped; we had a room on the top floor which was lovely. Staff: The staff was absolutely fantastic. Friendly, caring, interested in your comfort and always smiling. I would say they very much went above and beyond. We really appreciated it. General: Being given the Istanbul Card was a huge benefit. Istanbuls metro/public transportation system is awesome and really easy to navigate. It was very easy to get to other parts of the city (like locals :)). It also allowed us to mitigate taxi use that can be a bit annoying as some taxi drivers take advantage of tourists (not using meters, charging in Euros, taking longer routes etc etc).

RussiaPoor sound isolation. But its not a bug its a feature! I would specifically comment on this one as it came to be the only issue we've had with the hotel. The building itself is an old traditional turkish wooden mansion. This type of construction does assume bad sound isolation. Its not disastrous but u could hear the steps or loud talks of your neighbours, That is the price for authenticity of the building, We knew it and we decided to go for it. It was not worse than we expected and we even got lucky with our neighbours who were very quiet and have not really disturbed us.
Lovely vintage interiors and traditional decorations. Even books in the dining room are marvelous! Very friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfasts. Clean and well maintained room. Good location - the hotel is in a short walking distance to many major sightseeings while still a bit away from busy tourist flows. Tram line is also close by. I would specifically highlight the combination of traditional and high-tech components which allows to enjoy local culture and architecture but still provides a lot of comfort.

United KingdomFantastic location in a small lane minutes from the attractions of the old town, plenty of local restaurants nearby. Beautiful room with everything you could ask for, modern but with some Turkish character. Home made nibbles and fruit left in our room each day were a lovely touch and the breakfast was great. We were upgraded to a bigger room than the one booked. Super helpful staff too.

United KingdomThe only thing we didn't like was leaving. The walls are pretty thin - but other guests seem respectfully quiet. I'm a pretty deep sleeper, but others might consider ear plugs. The area is minutes from the major Mosques, but is very quiet.
In an area crowded with small, independent hotels, Blu Ma'cel stands out - from the moment we arrived, we were made to feel extremely welcome. Our oversized 'junior suite' provided many things that chain hotels don't - a private patio, for example, a capsule coffee machine, a wardrobe and plenty of stoarge space. A big TV on a moveable bracket iincludes Netflix, Prime and Disney - great after a long day walking around the sites. The room has fast wifi, an air purifier and a very modern AC. Breakfast was enormous, generous, delicious and served fast, with unlimited drinks - and not a generic buffet. The staff couldn't do enough for us - even providing a city-wide travel card. Daily snacks were a real treat - and not just a sealed packet of biscuits - we are talking homemade cookies, cakes, and little savoury dishes including the likes of sandwiches, beans and aubergine dishes. The room was kept immaculately clean, and housekeeping were completely unobtrusive. The saying 'if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is' simply doesn't apply here. We felt for the room size, the service, and the quality of food and extras all included, this stay was extremely good value. There are dozens of restaurants, cafes, shops and bars all within a few minutes walk, and the Blue Mosque is literally five minutes away.

The Hotel is very charming, the staff was extremly kind and helpful. The room and bed were very comfortable. The building is in a side street so there was no street noise. The Blu MaCel is in a very good location, close to the main sights.
