If you can, stay here on your Kumano Kodo hike. This was perfectly located - near both the trails, and several onsen facilities / attractions. The owners were the most kindhearted people, going the extra mile to make us comfortable, feel welcome, and send us off well fed and equipped. Would recommend a thousand times over.

Very cozy spot on the river bank. Ease of access to kumano kodo trail. We did the Hongu loop trail leaving from here, hiking to Hongu-taisha, then bus to Yunomine Onsen, and then hike the rest of the loop from there. Awesome experience!

After walking part of the Kumano Kohechi trail I was happy to find this little guesthouse. I was the only guest and Netchan the owner had already sent me the code for the keybox so I could check in early. The place has a kitchen, simple bathroom and eco-toilet, and upstairs futon with blanket. All next to the river and convenient. I had pre-ordered dinner and breakfast (which I suggest since there's not much in the neighborhood – they were both delicious and prepared locally), but the real treat was Netchan taking me with his family to a local onsen, the oldest in Japan! Yabai!

Situated next to a grocery mart. Friendly staff. There weren't anybody around when we arrived but the person in charge responded promptly via WhatsApp and promised to arrive in 10 mins. Washing machine and dryer facilities available.

We enjoyed the location, 10 .minutes walk to fabulous onsen, quiet rural village. There is a small minimalist for groceries, Okagesan yakitoria run by Manabu san, and the cafe at the onsen for meals.

This traditional Japanese house is very well looked after and is in a great location, and within walking distance of two onsen. Manabu is a great host, even delivering handmade rice balls each morning. We also ate at his restaurant which was very good. Highly recommended.
